2025-26 College football season

Well, coming of by far their worst game of the season, BYU bounced back with their best game of the season.

Wow!! Wasn’t expecting a 51-47 Utes vs KState game. Utes gave up almost 500 rushing yards and still win. One of the wildest games I’ve ever seen.

Ya that was crazy. The 2pt conversion int return changed the game a bit.
The 4th and 1 long run by Dampier is the main reason they pulled of the crazy comeback imo. That was huge. I think it was like 50 yard run or something on a 4th and 1.
Got the ball down to the 4 or something. In hindsight I bet KSU wishes they would have let him score on that long run because the fact that the utes had to use like 3 more downs to punch it in meant that KSU had to burn all their timeouts.

That was the most rushing yards allowed by the utes in program history and the most rushing yards gained by ksu in their history. Crazy that the utes pulled the win.

Too bad for the utes that BYU won. It's gonna be BYU vs Texas tech in the championship game now. Hoping BYU can at least make it a close game this time is they lose and then maybe they still sneak into the playoffs.

College Football is a funny sport. As UTA Alum, I can say it felt like the refs were trying their hardest to give UTA a chance to win and they did.

Any specific play stand out to you that refs made a questionable favorable call?

fwiw, I wasn't watching super closely, but these are moments I remember:

- Early on in the game the refs gave KState a comical spot on what should have been a first down. I think they may have scored a touchdown on this drive anyways? They scored on most possessions.
- There was PI in the endzone committed by Utah but they didn't call it, they had to kick a field goal
- KState was called for 12 men on the field in a defensive sub situation....I know the refs got this wrong because Whit literally invented this trick. The defense must be given time to sub.
- Two point conversion flag pickup

I remember the last two you mention.
Ya interesting choices by the refs on those 2 plays

What a great season from BYU. Senior QB transfers. True freshman win the position. Undefeated at home. 11-1 record. Wins over a 10-2 team, a 9-3 team, three 8-4 teams, and two 7-4 teams (one of which will get to 8 wins today when they play each other).
That would mean they beat 6 teams with 8 or more wins and another team with 7 wins.
4 of those wins against teams with at least 7 wins came on the road.
Thats 7 wins against teams that won at least 7 games. 4 of those wins happened on the road.

Went 11-2 last season and destroyed Colorado and their Heisman trophy winner in the bowl game.

Yet might not make the playoffs.

No p5/p4 team that finished the regular season with only 1 loss has ever been ranked worse than #8.
Until this year. BYU ranked #11. After going 11-2 last season. Smd

Worst ranked 1 loss regular season p5/p4 teams:

2024, indiana #8
2023, Alabama #8
2022, ohio state #4
2021, notre dame #5
2020, N/A (COVID)
2019, Baylor #7
2018, ohio state #6
2017, Georgia #6
2016, Washington #4
Average ranking #6

2025, BYU #11 and the only loss was on the road to a top 5 team (can't have a much better quality loss than that for your only loss)

The absurdity of college football is really showing with calendar and how these coaching/transfer decisions go down. The NCAA did some good things, but this was so poorly planned.

Agreed. BYU has a possible coaching change happening during the prep week for probably the 2nd biggest game in program history because signing day happens to be the same week.

Wait till the season is over for transfer portals, recruit signings and coaching changes. Duh.

I don't see how the team won't be a little bit distracted and a little less prepared for the big game Saturday.

This and the Lane Kiffin stuff. Plus all the kids who will sit out their bowl games so they can position themselves better in the transfer portal.

NCAA is a pro league where everyone is on a one year deal and free agency starts right before the post season. I like that the players have more choice and get paid. This is system is stupid and NCAA sports are now soulless.

Sitake stays with BYU. Rumor is he will get 9-9.5 million per year and that BYU will provide 10-15 million per year in NIL money on top of the revenue sharing.

I'm going to assume he got raises for his assistants as well.

Good stuff. I was pretty bummed when I thought he was leaving.
Apparently he accepted the job from Penn State verbally. Then lavell Edwards wife called Kalani and tried to convince him to stay. Meanwhile, the owner of crumbl cookies sent out a bat signal to all wealthy BYU alums and boosters to contact the school and say that they want Sitake to stay and they are winning to pony up money to help.

A deal got done at the last minute. I heard that Sitake had even called a team meeting to inform the team that he was headed to Penn State. That's how close it was.

Phew
