GIANNIS

Btw I reject the notion that Giannis would be a rental. I think that is only true if we cant provide him a team he can win titles with.

Despite his passive-aggressiveness dude is all about being a "stand up loyal guy" who cares about his legacy and winning more than anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that kind of the perception of Kevin Durant at OKC (recall his emotional acceptance of the MVP award) before he bolted not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times for greener pastures?

Oh please. Giannis has spent 12.5 years in Milwaukee.

Perception < Evidence.
Things change, people change. That may indicate he's who you think he is, or that he's tired of being a loyal trooper and wants to end his career on a winning note (and not part of a rebuilding project a la Utah Jazz).

I doubt that when Durant was giving his emotional MVP acceptance speech and all the OKC fans' hearts were atwitter with affection for his devotion to the franchise, many contemplated that two years later he'd desert OKC for Golden State and 12 years later he'd be on his fifth team.

We cannot include the pick if it has obligations unless the Bucks would be OK with 1-8 or nothing.
That’s exactly my point. Did you read the post you quoted?

(Though, I suppose you could create an “or *equivalent value in other picks*” type arrangement to make sure the Bucks are whole either way [or at least still maintains the incentive for the Jazz to tank the rest of the season].)

I literally said we need to provide him Ws. You circled back to my original argument.

The Foundation:
- Their pick of expiring Salary (Nurk/Anderson/Niang/Love/Svi),
- Their pick of rookie contract players from: (Cody, Collier, Flip, Brice, Hendricks, Walt),
- Our 3 2027 draft picks

The sticking points would be:
- Our 2026 pick
- Ace Bailey
- Walker Kessler
- Additional draft assets

The No's would be:
- Lauri
- Keyonte
I give em Kessler no problem. If they want him, he should be part of that first group in my opinion.
And I love Kessler

That's interesting and something I did think about. I think if you are getting Giannis you want to keep as many win now players as possible and so that's why I wouldn't automatically include him. I do think his upcoming contract, his fit with Giannis, and the fact that he might take some time next year before being back to 100% are reasons to include him in the deal.

Maybe we can sign and trade Trey Burke for Giannis straight across. Maybe we can throw in Anthony Bennett. 1st and 9th pick from the 2013 draft for 15th seems more than fair.

If his shooting is real, he’s an incredible fit with Giannis, is the thing.

You could also theoretically still be a player in free agency by delaying the re-signing of Kessler.

If there's any chance you go for it. Give them at least any one of the top three young guys they ask of Walker, Keyonte, Ace plus one or two out of the other young guys, plus almost every pick they ask for the trade to go thru. But not all of them, Jazz probably still needs to keep some pick of theirs. If it's not enough, then keep up this current course.

If you somehow can get Lauri and Giannis together, it'sd be one of the best 3/4 combinations of NBA history. Just have to make sure you have enough left at that point to round up strong enough 8-9 deep rotation.

If the Jazz could structure and time it right, I think they could have

Key
Ayo
Giannis
Lauri
Walker

By ‘27-‘28 (when Key’s next contract kicks in) that lineup alone probably puts you in the luxury tax. But depending on how you structure deals it might come in a little under that in following years.

Then I guess you just get creative and stay on your toes about putting together a decent bench on the cheap. But in my mind, it’s all about having the best 5-man lineup at the most important times and figuring out the intervening points in the game.
