2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

The point is that the money is out there. It only takes one team to target him and anyone that wants to do their homework know the Jazz are shaky about Kessler, doubly so now that they're suddenly married to $100 million a year for two 7 footers.
Jazz just turned down 2 firsts for Kessler and acqired the perfect complementary player to put next to Kessler, they have told everyone that will listen since they made the deal that they are bringing Kessler back. There is no mystery about their intentions.

K, last thing:

If the Jazz wanted a space and minutes eater for JJJ’s sake that inhales rebounds, can shoot a basketball, and provide playmaking you can re-sign Nurkic, seemingly on the cheap.

Also, why do we still have Nurkic? Seems like we could’ve traded him to the Clippers (and at least gotten a huge trade exception?).

Also, those two 7 footers plus Kessler all play different positions and are meant to play on the court at the same time.

My best guess is that LAC included the 10-30 protections and not IND. I think it's just protection in case IND does go for it so that they maintain a more premium asset (unprotected 2031).
I don't really agree with the notion of 2031 first being more premium because:
1) we have no idea how good the 2031 class would be. It could be another Risacher draft. And we all know for a fact that this 2026 class is super loaded with many solid prospects available outside of the top 10.
2) we don't know how good the Pacers gonna be in 2031. They might not even be a lottery team like this year.
3) Clippers need all the help they can get right now given they don't have control over their FRPs until 2030. The Garland and Mathurin acquisition both point to them trying to get younger and stay competitive for the next 2-3 seasons. They can't afford to wait till 2031.

Lauri is not really a 3. JJJ is a plain old ****** passer and rebounder. It remains to be seen if Walker is reliable really in any respect on offense besides garbage man stuff (I’m praying his shot and the passing flashes we saw are real).

That’s a lot of resources devoted to clunkiness.

thank you for that. the chances of them not signing kessler are about zero.

The fact that JJJ, Walker and Lauri are such poor passers is concerning to me. I have some hope for Walker improving a little bit in that department but I doubt he is ever anything special in that department.

They likely match anything... its just whether or not that deal is helpful or becomes a millstone. That is the question we are discussing... mostly.
