Millsap On The Low Block

I know that Locke has a lot of stupid stats. But, he said that Paul Millsap is 1 for his last 15 shot attempts on the low block. I know that Millsap has the courage of a lion, but the dude is getting killed down low. Maybe the Jazz are asking him to do something he isn't capable of doing?

I know that Ty started Favors for a few games at the beginning of the season and he kept getting into foul trouble. But barring a trade, starting Favors and having Millsap play against the opponents second unit is the only solution. Millsap is wearing down and he could dominate second units. The energizer bunnie isn't fun to watch when the batteries are dead.

I don't know what's wrong with Millsap lately. Seems like ever since he didn't make the all-star game he's been struggling. Probably mostly mental but there is truth in what you say. I'm just not sure Favors is ready to start. But maybe the only way to make him ready is to put him there.

I just want Millsap back.

it actually seems to me, at least in the last 5 games or so, he's taken alot of dumb/contested/fadeaways in isolation that aren't going to go in often for him, and for good reason.

he needs to get back to basics, clean the glass, hustle on the break, and stop trying to isolate so much. he will see greater success.

Carbon copy of what happened last season. Remember he started out averaging almost 20/10 and was shooting 60%+. Then he went into a slump and played himself out of an all-star berth. He is just outmatched by the bigger PF's. Every season he has a slump or gets injured. He can dominate off the bench but he's just average as a starter. I wish he would buy into becoming one of the premier sixth men in the league. It would make the Jazz a better team, prolong Millsap's career and actually IMPROVE his stats as he wouldn't have to compete with Big AL as much for touches.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that. And I agree that coming off the bench might help him be more productive.

I agree he is in a slump. I wonder if it has anything to do with the black hole he plays with. Perhaps he's jacking shots because he knows if he passes out that the ball is not coming back. How does Millsap do when Jefferson is out? Does his involvment and efficiency improve?

Everything improves when Slow Al isn`t on the court. It`s more of a team game when Al isn`t there. It`s all about ball movement, and we all see how movement is with Slow Al - turrible.

Last season he had 6 games w/<10 pts. This season, he already has 6. He also had higher highs last season. The 46 point Miami miracle was game #7 last year. Food for thought. I am a huge Millsap fan and these are simply facts.

Millsap's ideal role is off the bench. Someone has to step up and take the starting job from him, and I don't see that happening anytime soon (unless Corbin wakes up or KOC trades someone so that our #3 picks can get some ****ing burn).

I'm not sure if Millsap is best off the bench, but he sure as **** shouldn't be used as an iso scorer on even a semi-regular basis. He's a crafty player, who makes good team-oriented decisions on offense, defense and in transition. I don't believe it's a coincidence that the dude is 4th in the NBA in adjusted +/- over the last two years (per basketballvalue.com). He's a very good complementary/role player and third option, and as such could be a productive and efficient starter on even a championship caliber team. Unfortunately, he plays on a team almost completely devoid of players who can create for others, and his talents are largely wasted/misused.

Guys, Millsap has gone into a slump every year since his rookie year. But the Millsap love (and Boozer hate ... and AJ hate) have kept most of you from seeing it. The excuses I've read for these slumps are:

-- He lost his starting role when Boozer came back from (latest) injury and now he's upset
-- He must be injured, but unlike Boozer, he just plays through it and doesn't complain
-- He is upset from not making the All Star team
-- Boozer is a ball hog and steals his rebounds
-- Jefferson is a black hole
-- He just gets worn down from fighting the big boys down low

Millsap is what he is, a damn good backup PF to come off the bench. But if he is your team's #2 scoring option and the best defender on the floor, then you haven't got a very good team.

Agreed. It's just that as much as I toss aside the tunnel vision of the layman (LOW POST, BIG), there is a point. And because he's an effective, jack-of-all-trades player, he either needs people to play off of (starting on a good team), or he needs to play lesser competition, harder, in less minutes.

Either way, it's a good problem to have. But if Favors ever turns into the DPOY guy everyone is hoping and Kanter turns into sane Zach Randolph or whatever, then Millsap should come off the bench. I don't really see that happening necessarily, but I FIRMLY believe that if he's going to the bench someone has to take his spot from him. He's earned at least that much from this team and organization, not even considering that he's been the best player on the Jazz for the last two seasons (if you take out Deron).

If we are able to trade Big Al then we can have one of the two young bigs start right away. Millsap could start for years AFAIC, and Ty could balance minutes to Paul's benefit. This might at first increase the stress on Paul as the complexion of the offense would completely change and he would have to bear more of the scoring load, but he would be more at home in that sort of offense I think so who knows. If we can add better wing players it couldn't hurt either.
