Marc Stein: Jazz-Warriors discuss pre-Lottery trade (Source says trade "likely")

We're talking about the fact that the Ws pick next year(2013) is likely to be in the 10 - 14 range, even with their injury problems, meaning that re-negotiating the protection on that pick isn't likely going to net us anything.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you about taking our chances with getting the #8, but I do think you're missing something here. Suppose we get them to drop the protection to top 3 protected, and they end up having injury problems again, and it looks like they will not be in the playoff race again. Regardless of what people think, they WILL tank again to try and keep their pick, if they're not in the playoff hunt. Obviously they're not likely to be bad enough to finish bottom 3, but the closer they get, the better their odds of jumping into the top 3. That would put Utah in a great position to get a very good pick if they tank and come up short, just like this year, only in the 4-7 range instead.

Some people assume their fan base wouldn't tolerate tanking again, but that just isn't the case. That team has absolutely no trouble selling tickets, and for every fan they have that hates tanking, they have 5 who understand the implications of losing a pick while winning a few meaningless games. The majority of their fans not only supported their tank this year, but they were actually pissed that their FO made it so close, instead of making absolutely sure they kept their pick.

Freak has a way of saying what I'd like to say .. but I lack the care to express it all.

Way to go mattzoid.

If the Jazz can get a pick in the top half of this draft, that would be awesome. We have a 28% with GSW's pick, and we need to cover the balance with trade scenarios. If GSW can help us, then fine, but who cares what they want...

PJIII, TJones, Marshall, Lilliard, TRoss, Moultrie, Q.Miller, Rivers, Harkness, Waiters, Taylor, and two orders of Lamb..... *licks chops*

28%? Who are you gonna believe, me or Stein?.

We just cant do it because they cant offer anything that wouldnt make us be kicking ourselves later if the pick slid.

A screw up here on a gamble could end up being an all time fail.

Wasn't kobe the one who threaten to go over seas if he wasn't drafted by the lakers? If you look on different web sites as far as kendall Marshall you can see the what he is being compared to. https://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kendall-Marshall-5095/ for instance says his best case is Andre Miller and worst is Mark Jackson. We will still have our pick next year. It isn't like this year we are loosing out on something we already have.

Thanks for proving my point!

Mark Jackson is the #3 assists leader in league history. He is likely to be voted into the Hall of Fame at some point.

Andre Miller is a 12 year vet who has had a long and very successful career (the greatest Ute ever?). He is currently #10 all time in assists.

If Marshall is either one of those players the Jazz will have found that franchise PG for the next 10+ years and will be competing in the WC for a very long time.

Just for fun, Andre Miller has over 10k assists.... Devin Harris has a little over 2,700 career assists... If you were to add all 3 Jazz PG (Harris, Tinsley, Watson) career assists together, they still would fall short of Andre Miller's career assists total.

freak, they prob wouldn't bother to tank if we get their pick top 3 protected, so a 4-7 seems unlikely

There's no probablies about it. If they're not in the playoff hunt for any reason, they will try to keep their pick. It isn't even a question.

Really? A team with its 2 best players who have had enormous injury issues? No cap flexibility? No depth whatsoever? When I look at them, I see a team that would need a lot to go right to finish with the 10th worst record in the league.

Actually billy i believe that the warriors could have finished with the 10th worst record in the league THIS year if they would have tried.... and that is without curry, bogut, and david lee for the stretch run.
In other words... you seem to think that adding Lee, Bogut and Curry to the team somehow makes them worse apparently.
