Are we really in a position to trade Al?

There is still a lot of buzz around the league that teams want to move players like Gasol, Josh Smith, and Andre Iguodala. Al Jefferson has been mentioned in one or two rumors as well and has value in the league. He could conceivably get moved in one of these deals. The question is---as much as people gripe about him---who would be the starting center for the Jazz if we moved Jefferson? Favors says he wants to play PF and is more natural there. Kanter isn't ready yet.

That's why I think it's more plausible that the Jazz would move Harris or Millsap. Jefferson may have more value for us as a center than a center we could conceivably get in a trade.

Perhaps not, but the window for trading him is only 1 year. We ain't going to re-sign Al, so trade him even if it's too early and Kanter isn't quite ready.

What's the worst that could happen? Jazz lose several more games and end up in the lottery. And Utah takes a big to restock the position.

SAme with Harris. Get the best possible deal as soon as you can. It's kind of like the Deron situation. Yes, you can wait until the deadline and MAYBE a better trade comes along. OR NOT. What I don't want to see happen is both those contracts come off the books, Mo leave via FA and the Jazz have extra cash, but no players. Then we're back to hoping we can overpay a couple of backups or unhappy guys (like Memo and Boozer) and have them become all-star caliber starters.

Good post. Yes, the way to protect the Jazz's player value is to parlay these expiring players into other useful players we want (signed for longer deals) or trade them for other assets (picks TPEs).

I think the OP hit on why he hasn't been moved yet.

Teams still have hope for Howard and Gasol, when those guys are settled Al's future will become easier to figure out. There isn't any reason to be in a panic about it now, still plenty of time to get value.

And the first domino to fall will be Deron. It's kind of like the summer of Lebron's discontent. Until the big names get settled, all other deals will be on hold.

1. Best scorer and player on the team. May not be the most valuable though
2. Dominant low post scorer
3. Showed flashes of passing ability. I think with more 3 point threats he would kick a lot more
4. Mentored the 2 young guys and you could see the improvement with Favors on the block
5. He does stagnate the offense but I mentioned before with more shooters he may pass more
6. Doesn't box out
7. Doesn't play defense. Terrible at P&R and transition
8. Favors needs to start. Use Sap as 6th man. Better suited off the bench than Al.
9. Could get a good return for Al. Expiring and good player
10. Give him till the deadline to improve on stuff and if he doesn't, he's out

11. Amazing hugger

Added one.

1. Best BAll hog and least athletic player on the team. May not be the most valuable though
2. Dominant low post ball stopper
3. Showed he could pass....maybe three times. Had potential three point threats in Hayward, Bell, Harris, Burks, but never allowed them to get into the flow of the offense to let them develop.
4. Mentored the 2 young guys by publicly saying Favors needs to realize you don't need to bang around down lowand you could see Favors getting frustrated being on the bench in overtime losses and watching Jefferson be Duncan's b****
5. He does stagnate the offense but I mentioned before with more shooters he believe has to pass less because only two guys are guarding him insted of four
6. Doesn't box out
7. Doesn't play defense. Terrible at P&R and transition
8. Favors needs to start. Sap has shown the effort and heart and desire to win, so he starts. Al, is a B****. B****'s come off the bench
9. Could get a good return for Al. Expiring and good player
10. If there aren't any taker, amnesty his a$$.

Fixed for accuracy.
