Right, Utah is so great that it is such a huge sacrifice to play lowly BYU every year.
EDIT: Also, did I say BYU wasn't about the money at all? Also, is it even a "rivalry" if one side is making outlandish demands?
You infer that BYU cares more about the rivalry than money, which isn't true.
Outlandish demands? Like how Utah spent and lost millions of dollars last year to play BYU, and BYU sacrificed nothing? Especially in a year where PAC-12 teams received their full share of revenue and Utah received a very small %?
Utah has been bending over backwards to make this work, and BYU does nothing but whine. Throw in head shots, trying to horsecollar players 5 yards deep in the endzone, twisting ankles in the bottom of the pile, cheap shots on QB's, etc and can you see why Utah would be a little tired and back out? Playing BYU benefits Utah's fans, not Utah's program. BYU does nothing for Utah's schedule, reputation, rankings, etc.
p.s. The Red/Blue charity event is held every year. The losing coach sings the other team's fight song. LaVell, McBride, and Whitt have all participated and been good sports. Bronco? He refused to sing along. Little things like that get old fast. Why continue to schedule a team that is nothing but disrespectful [(see how Holmoe, Bronco and players have reacted to Utah trying to work with BYU but having to take a break from the game to play national legends (Michigan)] and doesn't help you in your standings, and doesn't bring you any additional revenue?
