Jazz back in talks with Josh Howard

I'll believe it when he signs. This is a lot like the rumors of CJ to the Lakers. Then all of a sudden the deal with the cavs was finalized. I seriously doubt they are really all that interested in Howard.

If Howard is just a bench reserve, he is a good player to have. He has experience, so he can step up if someone gets injured and provide minutes, or even start if needed.
My thoughts exactly.
Truth be told, Carroll sets our offense back noticeably, and didn't look any better in Summer League. If Howard is healthy, he's a respectable all-round player, who can hit the J. Carroll is just BAD on offense, unfortunately...

Did last year never even happen? Carroll made us better offensively and defensively over having Howard on the court.

I've been away from the news and this is weird. There is no good reason for Howard to sign back here unless another deal is in the works. But that deal could only include Burks so I don't see that angle either. And why would Howard sign somewhere where he was guaranteed to be the 5th wing? I don't see any good coming from this.

Yeah, either this is his agent talking things up, or the Jazz are preparing a trade that likely involves Earl Watson and Paul Millsap.

I can't see how this makes any sense at all. Can anyone else?

Last year Carroll's FG% was .374
Josh Howard's FG% was .399

Carroll's 3pt% was .368
Howard's 3pt% was .243

Carroll's FT% was .875
Howards FT% was .773

So Carroll didn't set our offense back at all. And his energy was infectious. He made his teammates better. I love Carroll and I want him on this team. A LOT more than Josh Howard.
Plus Carroll doesn't take a shot unless he has to. The guy prides himself on being a defensive energy guy. I love that. Josh is a chucker. I liked Josh last year fine - he seemed like a nice guy but Carroll is more valuable to a team.

Yeah, this.

Think about it, Millsap is very likely turning down the offer they gave him, which was probably about the most that they would sign him for, so apparantly his is too overpriced for the team. As such they will likely go deron on him and trade his one year deal for something of value (draft picks) and use Marvin at the 4 more (and Evans, don't forget Evans).

Edit: there almost has to be a roster move of some sort in the works because the Jazz are at 15 i think with the draft pick, (whom they like) and even if they waive Raja, they like to keep a spot open for security reasons.

it's not the most they can sign him for... it's just the most they can extend him for. next summer, they can offer him starting at up to 30% of the salary cap.

and waiving raja is a "when", not an "if"... so we're at 14 for all intents and purposes, and they very well could be done for this summer.

are you kidding? carroll has very little positive impact on the offense. he is a subpar offensive player.

the problem is, he won't get used as the 5th wing. he'll get used as the 2nd or 3rd wing. so much for hayward/marvin starting, so much for burks'/foye's roles.

This would be a horrible first move for Lindsey. I agree with Greg I really don't think they are that interested.

If we were so interested in him why wouldn't we have signed him already?

I think Carrol is >>>>>>>>>>> Howard.

Howard is probably a slightly better offensive player, but he doesn't play hard, plays garbage defense, and shoots way too much.

probably $$$. My guess is that the Jazz were interested in an extremely cheap deal, however, Howard shopped himself around first and now is ready to talk about the cheap deal again.

20$ and a big mac if we make the playoffs, take it or leave it.

Howard was a worse black hole than Big Al. Talk about chucking, he made CJ look like a pass-first PG. I don't know how many times he took inadvertent shots with tons of time left on the shot clock. No way Jose!

What games did you watch last year? Howard bricked everything, and played as if he thought he was still Allstar caliber. Remember the playoffs, remember one game when he just started jacking up shots and missed them all. It was like he was Cj on steroids. I'd rather give those minutes to Carroll, he gives us defense and hustle plays, and doesn't hurt the team like Howard does.
