What's new

Gyp's 2013 dietary journal

Nothing specific but in general, more of a paleo-diet. Lots of veggies, fruit, lean meats and fish.

I used to be about 10-15 pounds overweight - nothing major but just enough to annoy me because I got plenty of aerobic activity playing b-ball 2-3 times a week and I lift weights 5 days a week.

I did two simple things:

1- Stopped eating lunch. I'm convinced Lunch is just a fake meal made up by the Wonder Bread Corporation. I always found myself eating garbage food anyway, especially on weekdays and when I was single. So I just cut it out. The first couple weeks were torcher - now I don't miss it at all. I eat a big breakfast aournd 9 am and then whatever I want for dinner at around 5:30 pm and I'm pretty much set. No calorie counting, no cutting out foods, no dietetic food. Nothing

2- Got a Fitness Ball. Instead of sitting on the couch, sit on a Fitness Ball when watching TV - it's relatively comfortable. Do occassional sets of crunches. You'll be amazed how many you can do once you get in to it. During a Jazz game, you'll find yourself doing a 1000+ crunches after a while. When they get too easy get a Medicine Ball and do crunches with them.

Those two things got me down from around 205-210 to 185-190 with killer Abs

Dude, with me, it's not a matter of what to do. It's simply doing it. I went from 220 to about 188 a couple years ago in about four months. Then, one beer led to another, and well...

Weighed myself when I woke up. I'm a tiny bit short of 6'2" and came in at 225.4 with 25.9% body fat. I need to dedicate myself to health this year or I'm going to find myself dead by 50. So yeah, I am going to write down every single thing I consume this year. And if I exercise, I'll track that too. If you guys want, for fun, you can try to predict where I'll be 365 days from now.

Breakfast: Plain Quaker Oats oatmeal with a little cinnamon on top, water

I haven't read this thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned... There are some pretty awesome smartphone apps for this kind of thing. It's probably a lot easier than posting it here everyday.

You can track your meals and workouts all in the same app. You put in what you consumed, and it tracks the calories. It also tracks how many calories you burned based off your workouts and such.

You can grant public access and just post the link here.

Check out myfitnesspal. It has a huge community, with a huge database of foods and exercises already complete with calories and such.

Okay, so this morning I had plain Quaker Oats again. I usually have that most mornings. Then, I had about half of my DD X-L coffee with skim milk and sugar. Not great for my diet I realize but on the days I do have it, I'm going to stick with skim rather than cream. For lunch I had my usual rice (white) and beans (kidney) with chicken. The chicken is baked but I did (and usually do) eat the skin. I teach in a district that's predominately Hispanic so there are a few similar places within a five minute walk on my lunch. I usually eat this at this particular place because it's one of the closest eateries and they give you a lot of food for just $5.50. I also had a bottled water with it.

Gonna now eat a banana and a pint of raspberries with some more water.

Okay, didn't eat that fruit. Went to Chick Fil-A and got the #1 meal large sized with an extra Chick Fil-A Chicken Sandwich.

Polished off last of Xmas chocolates, New Years Carrot Cake, and yesterday's bag of Hersheys Baking Chocolate.
Weighed in at 219 today.

Listen Gyp .. I'm serious. I have a book you should read if you haven't already. Very well known .. but I think it could be a game-changer for you. Like, if you've read it, read it again..

I believe in this thin little 2-day read as much as any book ever ..

Just ate my oatmeal again with water while reading PKM's book. Well, the cover anyway. It was good.

Ate my rice, beans and chicken again for lunch with a bottled water...now, I'm eating pasta with Ragu (I know, I know) and Wegman's meatballs, with skim milk
