Duke's Jon Scheyer gets invite to Jazz camp

Best case scenario - he shoots the lights out - but then isn't that just like having a Kyle Korver? [/QUOTE said:
Yes.... Hopefully he is just like Kyle Korver.... at a huge discount in $.

That would be a great addition.

Gaines and Jeffers are pure scrubs. Might as well 'roll the dice' on some players that will only be as bad at worst.

-Bump Jeffers, sign Ryan Thompson
-Bump Gaines, sign Scheyer, Weaver, or Watson
-Sign Fesenko

Then call it an offseason.
Agree.

And Hotttnickkk - Scheyer played some point at Duke, so he'd be a good option as the 3rd PG. Ronnie P. is a better defensive player, but Scheyer would certainly be a better shooter. At worst I figure he'll be an upgrade over Gaines. I was screaming at the TV during the OSL. Sundiata was absolutely horrible.

Scheyer seems like a poor man Hayward to me.. why would you want that? Need somebody a bit more physical in my opinion...

I just don't get why we kept getting one-dimensional players in the past (see Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver).

Hope we don't go back there again...

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. You call him a poor mans Hayward and then proceed to say he is one dimensional. Let me ask you, do actually watch college basketball? I am going to say that the answer to that is a resounding no.

Whenever I see the word "Duke," I take it as an instruction to poop.

From tribjazz: Mark Bartelstein, agent for former Duke standout Jon Scheyer, said the guard will not attend the #UtahJazz's training camp

I am convinced Scheyer can play in this league. The complaints that people have about him are the same that people had about JJ Reddick and he has turned himself into a nice basketball player.

I would take Scheyer anyday of the week over 50% FT shooter Sundiata Gaines.

Oh well, according to Trib Scheyer not coming to our camp. I think he would have had a good chance of taking Gaines spot. I wonder if we are close to signing Watson. Of course the brilliant journalists and ESPN still seem to think Gaines is guaranteed a spot.

Dude better figure out what the hell he's doing, roster spots everywhere are drying up.

Ridiculousupside is reporting he's coming to Utah's camp and they are running a video where the player says the same thing.

True, but with CJ, Bell, Honzward, and Kirilenko in the lineup, I'm not sure that he'd get any burn--not that there are many good options elsewhere. If I were him, I'd go oversease. He's Jewish, so maybe they'd take an extra-good look for him in Israel. At least he has Yom Kippur to think about it.

[In the world of real-time sports, his invitation to Jazz camp is already on his wiki posting. Guess that posting might be updated soon.]

All it takes is one injury to free up time at the wings. But regardless, I'm more concerned with Price gumming up the offense to the point of near-insolvency than I am anything else at this stage. If the Jazz don't find a better decision-maker/passer/set of eyes as a PG, they'd better anoint Hayward the PG on offense. Price sucks if he's doing anything besides flying over Carlos Boozer sideways or picking fights with people he has no business picking fights with.

wikipedia is a fan-contribution site so it may not be reliable. there have been conflicting reports with the player said yes and the agent said no so we will have to wait and see. i will like it if he does come. Someone who can shoot well and run the point a little bit is going to help.

I, too, wish that Sloan would try more of AK or maybe CJ (or previously Brewer) at backup point guard. When other teams did it to Utah, it sometimes made for a tough matchup for Deron. It all assumes, though, that the backup PG can minimally dribble and pass.

I was all for giving Gaines a chance, but he showed little more than selfishness in the summer league, and Price--although a cool dude, too--has had plenty of years to show a PG game. After all, he has had 3 or 4 times the amount of playing time that Fesenko has had ;).

It'll be interesting to see if Brew gets any burn at the backup with the Bulls; he was PG in college. IMHO, Brew should've been given more of a chance than anyone, especially since he knows better than to shoot most of the time (lol).

Fanhouse is reporting that he has signed a contract and will attend the Clippers training camp with Tree.

Nonguaranteed of course. I believe we probably told him we were probably going to sign Watson so he decided to go elsewhere. Who needs a Dukee anyway!

I think his agent might have given him bad advice. We have at least four guys with non-guaranteed contracts in camp in Jeffers, Gaines, Evans and Thompson. The guy was the leading scorer and assister on the NCAA Champs. If he can't beat these guys out, he needs to sell insurance for a living.
