For you Al apologists out there:

From an earlier thread, someone was quoting Locke:

"His TipOff is better and he pretty much did say it.
But the stats he used to back up that Al is a bad defender will make you double-flip .

Pretty much what he looked at was every pair of players on the Jazz (IE: Favors/Jefferson, Burks/Jefferson, etc) and took the offensive and defensive ratings that those pairs of players produced.
EVERY PLAYER that was paired with Jefferson caused a defensive rating per 100 possessions worse than the worst defensive team in the league.
So basically, when Al is on the court at any given time, we are the worst defensive team in the league by an average of at least 2-3 points depending on the other players playing. If you know what those stats mean, then you'll flip.

The Jefferson Favors combo gives up like around 112 points per 100 possessions. 7 points worse than the Bobcats defensive rating.
If we re-sign Jefferson, we're *****ed."

Al is terrible for this team.

What does Al do for this team that = wins?

Who else takes shots in crunch time? Who's our go-to guy? How do we let our best player, and leading scorer/rebounder, just walk?

Unfortunately, this FO doesn't get past the above questions.

Best player? Really? You aren't serious, are you? If he is our best player, then KOC needs to find a new job. We currently have 4, FOUR top 10 picks on this team. Statistically, Millsap is our best player. BY FAR.

Just because Al takes the most shots, and boxes out his own teammates, doesn't mean he is our best player.

Al appeared to play fantastic last night. He had 26 pts and 11 rebs on 55% shooting.
Favors stats: 17 and 15 on 55% shooting.

Favors took 11 shots. Al took 22. TWENTY TWO. Are you seriously telling me that Al is a better player than Favors? They both shot the same %, Favors had more rebounds, more blocks and HALF the shots Al took.

HALF.

Our go-to guy? If Al is our go-to guy, why are we continually blown out in the first and third quarters? 30-25 and 26-18.

If Al is our go-to guy, why is every pairing he is a part of the worst in the NBA? Being a go-to guy is more than just shooting every time you touch the ball.

Answer me those questions above. Al sucks. I (and Locke/Weezer) have shown you why.

What does Al bring to this team that is essential?

Your answer doesn't cut it. At all. Not even close. Your answer just brought up more reasons why Al sucks.

p.s. The reason why I posted Al stats: Here is who Al was guarding: Horford - 14/22, 34 pts, 15 rebs. We lost because Al kills us on offense and even more on defense. Last night was a perfect example of this.

If you had read his post a bit more carefully, you would have noted that he was speaking from what he imagined was the point of view of the Jazz front office. He was not offering his own opinion.

Sounds like Favors is the problem to me. Derrick isn't a scorer; we know that. So if he's not a defensive stopper, then it's time to trade him for a 2nd-round pick.

Clutch time FG% mostly.

is al jefferson not worth his pay grade? in a sense of his stats? how about vs market-value of centers in his pay-grade?(Deandre Jordan, Javale McGee, Roy Hibbert)

Ohh come on guys, you can´t blame AL for everything. This guy can score the basketball, consitently and his defense is not that bad !!!

First You are incorrect. The pairings with Al aren't all worse than the league worst. They are all above 102.5 ppp which is bad but they aren't all worse than the Bobcats defensive ratings.

Second I guess you missed the part where Locke said that Al was in pretty much every one of the best offensive pairings in the team. Or that Favors and Kanter together produced something like 89 ppp on offense. Where ppp averages about 1 league wide and the worst is the Wizards at 95.4 ppp.

Talk about it but be accurate about it.
