Following potential 2013 draftees

The curious thing about Marcus Smart is how big he is already. He may be developing early and skating on being more developed than his peers. Thats one of the question marks I have with him. But I do like him. He stands out among the other pg's in the draft.

Smart is without a doubt the best PG prospect in the draft. You started the Smart bandwagon, and kudos to you. I jumped on earlier than most here.

Did we mention CP3 has one of the best mid range games in basketball at around 47% year after year? You simply have to guard him everywhere and cannot cheat and go under on screens. Having said that, Burke is pretty good in that department as well. From DX on 2-22:

Trey Burke is the best off the dribble shooter in college basketball according to Synergy. He makes 41.5% of his attempts.

The point of bringing up Chris Paul was to get a read on Burke's size and athleticism in the NBA. No way he's the player Chris Paul is, but Burke has comparable size and athleticism to Paul coming out of college.

Smart is just that kind of athlete. He's built like a tank.

Man, Burke looks soo average to me. We just gotta go BPA no matter what.

He's a great team guy, controls the game well, low TO's, shoots the 3's at a good clip.

I think he needs to learn somewhere along the line that he needs to be a better 1-on-1 player and as mentioned by PGgod_Buks, may be a bit more crafty with his dribble drive game, hesitation game, etc.

His athleticism is at least at the same level as CP3, so I don't see why he can't develop more offensive weapons.

KOC wanted CP3, Jerry and Larry wanted Deron in the 2005 draft.

i like koc more and more. EVERY time i read about him and the draft.

now i know his failures, but his body of work is legit. morris almond was one of his more egregious errors, @ #25. over Aaron Brooks, Arron Afflalo,
Carl Landry, Glen Davis, Marc Gasol, and Ramon Sessions. but like i said this is no exact science.

you guys may not want to hear this but cp3 would have been better for those teams, the ball-movement with prime AK would have had a huuuge attrition factor, that was in boozers prime too. the worse 3pt shot that cp3 back then was negligible if you look at in the spectrum of 1 game or a playoff series because hes just not the type of player you're force into his weakness, and hes a much better floor general, its not even a question, Deron is a MONSTER of a 1/2 though.

Not to mention numbers (cp3): 15.3pts, 6.3 assts, 47% from 3's.

Actually Burke's numbers are slightly better.

But I think Paul's numbers hide the fact that he's a very dangerous 1-on-1 player, something Burke struggles with.

Guys - how hard would it be for Burke to develop even 50% of the kind of offensive moves that CP3 possess? Also to increase his quickness around the court? Also craftiness?

PKM? PGgod_Burks? Catchall? Spy? Hack? Anyoneeee??

I went back and pulled up some CP highlights from Wake Forest to try to assure myself that Burke is similar in terms of size and speed. Below is the CP footage, and I'll post the Burke footage. CP is craftier and more skilled than Burke, but the difference doesn't look as dramatic as I thought it would in these highlights. There's just something special about CP's ability to make big plays. It's that je ne sais qois that superstars have.

Anyway, here's CP....

How would you know that? I have heard a lot if interviews and never heard anything like that. The Jazz always play the organization works as a team card.

I looked all over for the link but I couldn't find it. It might have been in a Locke podcast that I heard that. Basically, KOC appraised CP3 as the better talent and didn't want to pass up on him but was overruled by Jerry and Larry because Jerry liked Williams' size and the fact that Williams played "under the basket" - both of which traits would make him less injury prone. Anyone know where to find the podcast or article I read many moons ago?

I first heard this through ESPN. Jerry Sloan thought Williams could run the Jazz's system and that his body would take the punishment better than Chris Paul.

Thanks Catchall - I'd hit you with rep but have to spread it around first.

I think the main difference I can see is really that CP3 is much lighter on his feet. He just seems a lot quicker and faster and very nimble and active too. Burke is muscly and bulky (which is something you need in the NBA today - I get that), but he needs to be quicker around the court and a bit more decisive too. As well as active.

Watching the 2 videos side by side, it seems like Burke is always going at 80% of CP3's speed....

McCollum just looks like a better player than Burke to me. I'm probably going to get negged for this.
