Raul Neto : new spectacular talent

Maybe you don't get the LT money, I don't know, but you don't have to spend it. Spending that money, for this team, this year does not seem smart right now. If they do, they eliminate the chance of adding future picks via picking up players teams need to unload to save their own LT money. You have to the end of the season to spend it anyway. So picking up players at the deadline could potentially fill both requirements.

Based on everything they've said, the Jazz are absolutely looking to pick up players from heavy spenders at the deadline. With draft picks to make it worth the Jazz's while.

Locke says Neto will be at the press conference and will play with the team in Orlando. Depending on how that goes he most likely will be on the team next season.

This is nice to hear. I want to see the kid against NBA players. He played in the ACB so he should be ready to step up and play with the NBA guys. I hope he impresses and makes the team. I rather develop him then bring back a Watson type player.

Amen. Of course we still need to sign a vet at PG. Jack, Udrih, Calderon. Three of the biggest candidates. Wonder if Neto is a little like Raul Lopez before his injuries.

Agree. And look at the roster they have in place before even doing that!!! Now we can absolutely let go of our criticism of KOC/Lindsey for not doing anything at the deadline. IMO, Utah is in the best position in the league right now - outside of the 3-4 contenders. Maybe they pick up a late lottery selection next season. Even if they finish out of the bottom seven, they could move up with a package of say, the #9, #12 and Alec Burks to nab someone earlier. Big rotation should be set. I see them targeting a wing next year.

The LT payment thing is no small detail. I think the Jazz have calculated that into thier books as income. Missing it would be significant.

Luckily they would have until next spring to get there.

Jazz could just accept Kobe Bryant and a draft pick from LAL. Or Olynk, Wallace, and Lee from Boston. Lots of possibilities.
They'll pick up salaries at the deadline. Probably look for expiring deals first from teams that will throw in a high draft pick. The beauty of the situation is that some teams WILL be desperate to trade us good veterans or even just crappy expirings. AS long as that team isn't taking salary back, they win big by reducing their tax hit. And that will come at a steep price. I have a lot of faith in KOC and Lindsey in terms of driving hard bargains. They proved they can walk away from deals if the terms aren't favorable (Millsap and Jefferson last season). And teams know that. It will be a bidding war with the Jazz and only a couple of other teams able to provide the same kind of relief. Lots of teams have expirings, but the real value will be straight cap space. LET THE BIDDING START!

Do we need to sticky this info??? How many times has this been posted over the past month??

In layman's terms, the salary floor discussion works. If the cap space isn't utilized, then it is wasted money, essentially.

Nice idea but I doubt anyone is going to give up a top 5 pick next year.

Even at #7 or so, we can get an impact player. No matter how good our young guys are, we won't make the playoffs. 30 wins puts us in the #9 slot. Pick up a late lottery selection and throw in a quality player (Burks)...I think that moves Utah up 3 positions.

Will the Jazz stash Neto over seas for a year? If not, they will already have 3 PG's with Mcneal, Neto, and Burke... It may be nice to sign a guy to a 1 year deal unless you can get a guy that is young and able to carry the team for a couple of months and then become the backup, which would probably be the best option.

McNeal isn't guaranteed and Neto might be over depending on how he does in Summer League.

Bill Oram: Dennis Lindsey said the Jazz have the option of stashing 47-pick Raul Neto, who is under contract in the ACB in Spain

Nobody has mentioned the number at which he was picked, #47th overall, same as Mo and Millsap (like Murphy last year as well).

Guys I do believe Raul Neto has a lot of Tony Parker in him.. quick guard, nice handle, fearless going into the paint.. He looks very promising...

from press conference: "going to keep it open-ended with Raul at this point."

So he may come over and he may not this year. I think they may have something planned for free agency and will stash Neto for 1 year.
