Nobody needs him to score. I personally don't think that is the biggest reason why he wasn't picked higher. The biggest reason from what I have read and watched is he his a HORRIBLE post defender. He gets pushed around like crazy. They back him down with ease. They push him under the basket than lay it up. The guys that were doing this to him were much much smaller than him. I am not so high on him. I think Jeff Withey is a better player. BUT Gobert has much more potential.
The key to Gobert staying in the league is not whether he can have an offensive game or not. Its can he bulk up and learn to guard the post? Not the best defensive rebounder also because he cannot hold his position either. Don't have so many high expectations for this kid. He has a long ways to go before we should be really excited.
Gobert is great at help defense. He is amazing at pick and roll defense. He is amazing at getting tip balls and tipping it into the basket.
He already is really really good at those things. BUT if he never learns to play post defense he will be out of the league. I am sure the Jazz are aware of this because it seems to be widely known in his scouting reports. Watch this video on his weaknesses towards the end. I ignore the scoring part. He will never be asked to do so on this team. Kanter OR Favors will always be in the game with him(If Corbin is smart so.......lol).

Yeah OK, but I would say this:
1. He will grow into that frame. He's only 21.
2. We already have 2 decent post defenders with thick bodies in Favors & Kanter. Gobert would likely play with 1 of these guys.
3. Less and less teams have low post scoring C or PF. If needed to, we can just throw Favors/Kanter to guard them. While Gobert can roam the paint to block shots.
4. The way the league is going, there's a lot of Westbrooks/Rose/Wade/SF slasher types. Gobert is tailored made of these types of players. He has long arms and if he goes straight up - that's not a foul in the NBA for the defensive player. If he can learn to do that & alter shots without fouling, he's a great asset to have.
