so after moping around making a federal case about her wounds and how she couldn't go to work until August, the HR jokes told her she'd just be canned if she didn't come back on the dot of July 16. And then all of sudden she was well and going on vacation for the one week of liberty she still had.
she packed up the girls in her car and took off inside of one hour, and drove to the oilfields of North Dakota, stopping for the night in Butte. The next day she made it to her sister's place practically unannounced. Sis went into labor the next morning and told them she wanted to be alone, so my girls decided to go on to Bismarck. Except the kids, who started bawling about being trapped with the wild insane driveforever mom. So the stopped and went swimming in the park about one block from sis's place. A couple of hours later they got a call to come back, from a couple of desperate midwives. Sis was unconscious, bleeding profusely. Wife was back in about one minute.
Long story short. My wife is a former midwife, now RN labor/delivery specialist who is gifted in this department. The friends/midwife trainees who had come to be with sis didn't know what to do. wifey took charge, got out the meds they didn't know how to use, and got the crisis under control. without her it would have been an emergency ambulance ride to the hospital for sis. Sis is fine, and so is the new baby, and wife is back home now telling stories about how her girls made all the right decisions to get her to drive to their aunt's place and stay close enough she could help.
and yep, this is the same dame who couldn't go back to work a week ago.
