At what price will the Jazz not match Hayward's contract?

I'd argue that if you draft Jabari then the Jazz should do what they can to keep Hayward.

If Jabari is on the Jazz, Hayward's workload will be reduced to spreading out the floor and hitting outside jumpers. I don't want the Jazz paying $10-12M/year for this, we can get a better shooter for cheaper.

Why?

Our core would be Jabari, Trey, and Favors.

If Hayward wants to be a part of that then come back. He would be a tremendous 2 to go alongside Parker and Burke.

But he will need to come back with the understanding that he will be played and paid as the 4th wheel. We already have Burks who could play the 2. Hayward may think he's Kobe Bryant, but he isn't. He demands Paul George money but shouldn't! Let some other moron franchise pay him that much!

Don't pay star dollars for a role player. Or did we learn nothing from that whole AK47 fiasco?

He should of taken the deal during the offseason. I can't see the Jazz paying more than 10 million for an inconsistent player when we could use that cap to sign better players during free agency.

Problem is, the Jazz CAN'T sign a better player in the off-season. All things being equal, almost all FA's choose another destination. Jazz got Boozer over Denver; I'll admit that was a coup. Okur came as the result of overpaying an unproven player and offering too much for Detroit to match. It was a HUGE gamble. But what other quality FA's has Utah acquired in the past 10 years? Matching an offer for Hayward means we get him at market value. Going after other FA's almost assuredly means Lindsey has to significantly overpay to get them to sign a contract with the Jazz vs. any other team.

I can't believe how many are counting on getting Jabari or Wiggins. We are NOT going to finish with the worst or second worst record, unless injuries occur or the Jazz get lucky in the lottery (those are not great odds, BTW). Jazz are barely hanging on to the 2nd worst record after playing a horrific schedule with no PG. Burke is now healthy, the schedule has lightened up and the Jazz are playing better than a lot of teams in the EC. If the current trend continues, the Jazz will end up in the 8th position. Best case, IMO, is 5th/6th. So no franchise player in the draft. Perhaps a future all-star, but no superstar. And sorry, I just don't see Favors and Burke as the 2nd and 3rd members of a "Big 3." Lindsey needs to go out and find a 1st or 2nd option somehow (provided that draft pick becomes one as well).

I we will get Jabari or Wiggins as well. But I am equally surprised by how many act like no free agents will come to Utah. Those players who want to be on the big stage will say no. But there are plenty of free agents who will follow the money. And our young core will be enticing to some players.

Interesting as Favors and Burke's numbers have been better than Chalmers and Bosh's numbers over in Miami.

When the time comes to offer/match Hayward's contract, everything will be known at that point. NBA Draft is June 26, and the Free Agent signing period happens June 30th. The Jazz will be able to fully assess their situation once they know who will be on the roster after draft day.

I always liked all around players. For me, those are the ones that make the NBA the league i really like. They grab rebounds they shoot 3s, create chances block shots etc. Jack of all trades, master of none situation.
Remember, even Andre Iguodala couldn't shine with a #1 option "label".
Just an example, can Lance Stephenson be a number one option in any team? No.
Can Batum be the number one scorer on any top 25 team? No...
Maybe he can score but It won't be near 45 percent. Believe me.

We wanted Hayward to create his shot every single time. Wanted him to play both PG and SG at the same time. As he became our best offensive force excluding Burke (his absence), teams tried harder to stop him from scoring. The 40 percent shooting might be a tragedy but I expected that. Not 40 but like 42. He is clearly not a go to guy on offense but within a high profile scorer coming from the draft, he may and WILL play more efficient ball. He is worth 10 million.

As few people mentioned, his rebounding is surprisingly impressive this season. In terms of rebound opporturnities, he is on the top 10 list with the likes of Andre Drummond, D12, Deandre, Lebron etc. Remember his soph season...

I don't believe he is worth 10 million per. I do think he could get something like that from the Jazz or on the market. If we really are interested at retaining him at 4/50 as previous posters claim the offer was, then we are in for another contract we will come to regret. He's not a 1st or 2nd option on a contender. He might not even be a 3rd option. You don't overpay for a guy this inconsistent.

Am I the only one that is more concerned with the amount of years we sign Hayward for, and not quite worried as much about the cash? Seems like most of the bad deals are based on high amount of years to go along with a high salary

Lindsey is a Pop guy. Pop was the first tank commander. I'm surprised people think Lindsey will allow this team to win all year long. Enjoy this winning period in Jazz basketball. The last two months of the season will be UGLY.
