I didn't want to hijack Kicky's Kanye thread, so started a new thread for this instead.

I'm a big MCR fan, as you can tell from my name. I am loving the new album. I have listened to it all the way through once so far. As of now my favorite tracks are "Na na na", "Sing" and "The Only Hope For Me Is You". I pre-ordered the limited California 2019 edition of the album. It's a super cool box set that comes with a ray gun like they use in the music videos, a mask, and some other cool stuff. All packaged in a cool BL/ind box.

Also MCR is playing at In The Venue (small crappy venue) on 4/8/11. I already bought my tickets. I love seeing MCR live. They really put on a great show.

I've purposely not purchased this album only because I know it won't be as good as the Black Parade. I have to get my head around that before I listen or I'll irrationally hate it.

Closest thing to a Queen tribute that anyone's ever pulled off.

I'm so surprised you liked that album, or MCR in general. Thought you'd be a major hater of them

Only "Helena" caught my attention. Everything else was a big meh.

To be honest, I was completely stunned when Black Parade came out precisely because it was such a quantum leap forward in sophistication. In retrospect, "Helena" was a clue.
 
In The Venue is small? Lol, try one of the biggest, "nicest" venues in SLC. The only bigger ones are The Complex (which sucks), Salt Air (sucks) Avalon (barely even qualifies as a venue it's so crappy) and obviously the arenas. And trust me, the smaller the venue, the better the show. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll play at Club Sound (smaller and more intimate, just on the other side of the building).

For a band the size of MCR, yes In The Venue is small. I would have preferred to see them play the Maverik Center. What's wrong with The Complex? I've only been there once so far, and it was for a party. It seems like a nice venue to me. I hate In The Venue. I hate the uneven floors, and the awkward setup. I don't like being squished in the middle of a big crowd, so it can be hard to find a good view if the place is sold out. I saw Lacuna Coil at Club Sound. I was front and center right against the stage. The bad thing about that, was the openers shaking their sweaty heads all over me. YUCK!! I also wish I had ear plugs for that show. My ears were ringing for days after that show. That's really the only time I've had that problem. With all that said, I'm still super excited to see MCR live again. They are one of my favorite bands.
 
Black Parade was probably the best rock album of the aughts for me... I don't think anything else is really close (Backspacer maybe).

I had heard The Only Hope For Me, Nananana, and sing... before the album came out... all the other tracks were just kind of rubbish, my views would have been more favorable going in blind probably.

I'll probably also venture a trip to see MCR in April. I've heard they're great live... as kicky said... closest thing to Queen.

I will say I don't like the concept album, or whatever they did, I think it set them back instead of just allowing them to kill it. I don't like it especially since Green Day did something almost exactly the same with 21st century breakdown, and just brought the house down. The Queen angle works for MCR... expect a ravishing 4th (technically 5th) album.

I'm headed out on a road trip to Palm Springs. I'll give it a few more listens in the car along the way. I'll post a full review when I get back. I want a chance to listen to it all the way through a few more times.

I don't really like In The Venue either but mainly because it's run by The Kollective (the greediest, shadiest, ********* promoter around) and they run up prices for shows and make everything way too loud and have crappy sound guys. But size wise, ITV is pretty typical for bands of MCR's size. Reel Big Fish and Aquabats and Flogging Molly play there all the time and they're all about MCR's size. I can see it being cramped... I like that though. Makes it more intimate and memorable.

Okay I have probably listened to this album at least a dozen times now. I can honestly say that I love the entire album. Is it the same as The Black Parade? No. Is that a bad thing? I say no. I don't want a copy of The Black Parade. That is what I love about MCR. They try to do something new with every album they release. To me this album is full of a lot of fun rock music. I have already mentioned three standout tracks. Those three still remain some of my favorites from the album. If I list all the tracks I like, I'll end up posing the entire track listing. I'll just mention two more tracks. "Bulletproof Heart" and "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W" are both very good songs. "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W" might actually be my second favorite after "Na Na Na".

I am happy to have MCR back with new music. They were away for quite a while after they killed The Black Parade. Speaking of which, I purchased the incredibly cool The Black Parade Is Dead box set. This band really knows how to release killer value packed box sets. I can't wait to hear these new songs live next April.

Then why are they playing the same venues, and drawing the same number of people? RBF and Aquabats a few weeks back had In The Venue almost at capacity (same venue as MCR). Just because the Bats and RBF aren't on the radio as often anymore doesn't mean they don't have huge draws which is the point of this discussion.
