Countdown to a Letdown--aka Jazz trade deadline 2014

That's probably why Lindsay wanted the 2017 pick. If the Jazz had gotten the '14 and '16 pick, a standard trade, GSW could dangle the '18 pick. As it is right now. GSW can't trade ANY first round pick since I think you can only trade picks to a certain point into the future, so GSW can't do the '19 pick until next year.

That evil genius. I have faith in him.

On a side note I can't figure this season out. At first everybody kind of knew what to expect but honestly I can't see a clear path and really don't know in which direction this franchise is headed. Keeping Corbin, letting RJ play more than Alec quite often and winning as many games as possible so god forbide we'll have a shot at a top pick. It shouldn't depresse me but it kindda does. I'm one of the guys that believe in our current core but we really need a stud! And we ain't gettin it in FA. This season was supposed to pe be fun watching the young guns grow but I don't feel it. Gotta do something really fast.

Been wondering about this all season -- it's damn frustrating.

Latest rumor is TWolves trading Budinger and Barea to the Grizzlies for Prince and Allen (who has been injured). Is that a better deal for them than Marvin Williams? Probably. Budinger is a sharp-shooter and they've wanted PG depth. But basically two players in the $5M range who are signed for multiple years instead of Marvin who would be a half-year rental. If it happens, it will be interesting to see if there are picks involved. Allen isn't a bad player when healthy. Obviously, since he's been out for 1 month+ and the Grizzlies have been winning without him, they fell they can let him go. Budinger has looked pretty good the last few games and seems to be completely healthy.

I know we'll be disappointed, but hey. Memphis appears like they want to go hard after a playoff berth. Let's just hope it comes at the expense of GS and not Phoenix or Dallas.

The jazz have made 4 trades in the last 10 years by the way.

Really?

Eric Maynor
Ronnie Brewer
Mehmet Okur/TPE/Mo Williams
Koufos/Al Jefferson
DWill
Golden State deal last summer
Gordan Giricek/Kyle Korver
Derrick Fisher
Devin Harris/Marvin Williams

Not including draft-day deals for players like Fessenko, Burke, Neto, and Gobert

I really think Marvin Williams belongs on the Spurs unless Leonard is coming back soon. I also think he'd be great on the Heat playing ahead of Shane Battier or Udonis Haslem.

Incidentally, maybe the Jazz knew what they were doing letting Hornacek go and coach the Suns. It looks like they'll be a treadmill team, since they couldn't tank this season.

Might be talking about trades at the deadline. Jazz have traditionally been fairly quiet at the deadline - except for that blockbuster Deron deal.

Sorry should have said at the deadline. I just assumed that because this was a deadline trade thread...

Not a rumor, but a trade idea made by a writer for Detroit. (Though he titles it as a rumor, which is annoying as hell)

Josh Smith and Stuckey for Jefferson and Biedrins.

Stuckey's deal is done after this year, so he wouldn't be a long-term piece.

Interesting idea. I've always hated Josh Smith, but no doubt it would be interesting. He has a lot of talent, especially when playing PF and not SF. Get a good coach in Utah and he could flourish.
