Averages for both should be much better. They will have been starters, not backups. If a team wants to keep them, they'll have their RFA rights. If a contender wants them at the deadline, they're both VERY cheap.

I would think Burks value is actually high and Kanter's value is a bit low. Burks looked legit from about halfway through the season on.
I would try to keep in this order:
-Favors
-#5
-Burks
-2015 unprotected pick
-Burke
-Gobert
-2017 GS pick
To move into the top 3 it will take a mafia offer... I could see Phili doing it if Wiggins and Embiid are off the board, but it would take #5 and Burks at a minimum... likely a future pick or two.

I used to think that a couple of weeks ago. Now, I draw the line at Wiggins. Embiid's back and lack of experience, and Parker's defense, weight, and unwillingness to pass make me unwilling to trade Burks or Kanter plus #5 for them. I am in the minority who view those two as our best prospects. Any of the others are still on the table for me, though.

I guess I don't see either of them getting significantly more minutes this next Jazz season. They are both still stuck behind another player. Right now they have perceived potential, with any flaws in their game easily excused because of Corbin. If they play 50 games under Snyder and they still struggle with defense then their value takes a hit. Snyder maybe good, but I doubt he can fix either of their defense in 50 games of limited playing time.

He wasn't exactly a ball mover, was he? The ball would swing until it got to him, and then he would try to score.
He had an 8.6% AST%, which is really low for a wing. Compare that to Hayward's 24.1 AST%, Alec's 16.9 AST%, etc.

Great teams move the ball. Favors and Kanter are already ball stoppers at this stage. Not sure it helps us much if we add another.
Parker will score, and look good doing it, but I'm not sure he has the package to make a team better.
Our team needs a faster pace, more ball movement, better defense, and better 3 pt shooting, etc. I'm not sure Parker helps dramatically with ANY of those things, and am inclined to say he makes us even worse in some of those categories.
We need a star, but is he truly a star if he's not a complete player? #5 and Burks or Kanter, plus #23 is way too much to give up for him. Kanter and Burks both have offensive potency as well, and we haven't even seen them with a bigger role yet.
Burks per 40 in college had him scoring 26 ppg and getting to the line 10x a game! Parker's per 40 was 25 ppg and got to the line 8x a game. If Parker's only role is to be a scorer, I am more willing to keep Burks and the #5 pick.

If the Jazz draft a starter in the top 5, one of them will be coming off the bench, no? If the Jazz bring Tomic over and draft Gordon to start at the 3, both Burks and Kanter could be coming off the bench again...

My gut says -- strongly -- that Burks will flourish in Synder's system. Maybe I'm mis-reading his Fiba paper, but I think he'll maximize Burks' skill set.

This team's biggest problem last year was defense. AG-Gordo or AG-Burks looks a hell of a lot better defensively than Gordo-Burks. It may be that the extra defense you get starting AG makes up for the potential loss in offense.
Either way, with Tomic and Gordon on board, at least two of Burke-Burks-Gordo-AG-Kanter-Favors-Tomic will come off the bench. It's plausible that Burks and/or Kanter come off the bench, especially when you consider their defensive deficiencies.

AS far as I know, neither RJ nor Marvin have been re-signed, so wouldn't that make Kanter and Favors the starting bigs and Hayward and Burks the starting wings? Who are they stuck behind?

Marvin may be re-signed, the Jazz have the #5 pick in the draft, Tomic may come over, and the Jazz have additional cap space. There are a number of plausible scenarios that have one or or both Burks and Kanter coming off the bench and/or playing less.

How can you say he is not proven, but then go on to say he is horrible at defense? Shouldn't not proven work both ways, for good and bad. In other words, it is not proven than Jabari is horrible at defense.

He might not have passed as much, but I wouldn't call him an unwilling passer. You could argue that with better players around him he'll get more assists. Parker was trying to do everything for that duke team.
I think it would take a team loving Exum or Vonleh and believing that their guy would be there at #5 (i.e., not picked up by Orlando).
I think it would take more than a future 1st + Burks to move from #5 to #3, personally, but I could be wrong. But Burks would certainly be expendable if Jabari, Wiggins, or Exum were the target in a move up.
Bit of a shame, though. I like the kid. I just get the sense that Utah might not be the place for him to be all he can be.

Plausible scenarios, but all "maybes" at this point. And from what Lindsey said in a post-combine interview, he sees the current group as starters. He stated (and I'm paraphrasing) that when they spoke with potential picks, they were honest with them and said there were starters in place at every position. If the Jazz draft at #5, I just don't see Gordon or Vonleh starting. They're both projects, with a lot of work to do on their games. Either could get around 20 mins/per. Granted, Burke started last season. But the players in front of him were Garrett and Tinsley. That's not exactly like having Kanter or Burks as the incumbent. Marvin COULD come back, but it's not a given that he returns as a starter. In fact, he'd probably return as a backup: Kanter started ahead of him for the last month. Tomic? Yes, could come over and it might decrease time for all the rest. Then again, he could just take the mins. Marvin was playing, with Evans getting pushed to the bench.
Cap space could be used. But outside of Deng, are there really any good players? More likely is a trade. And that would probably send out a player and picks from Utah, resolving P/T issues.
So assume the pick and either Tomic or a FA replaces Jefferson and Marvin (or Marvin "replaces" himself). Those two averaged 27 and 25 mins. At worst, Kanter and Burks could still receive the same number of mins. And I do think that's "worst-case" - Burks and Kanter were getting inconsistent minutes early in the season.
