Free Agent Rumors Thread

Basically i just don't think we are winning anything next year no matter who we can recruit and we have players at every position already that i want to see getting the majority of minutes

PG: Burke/Exum
SG: Burks/Hayward/Exum
SF: Hayward/Hood/Evans?
PF: Favors/Kanter/Evans?
C: Favors/Gobert
Did someone get sent off with a red card? I agree. We may not even be able to win against Philly if we have to play 4-on-5.

The Jazz should first focus on re-signing Hayward or trying to sign Chandler Parsons if possible (I don't think they can afford to do both). They should then focus on extending Burks and Kanter, which will affect their numbers after the coming season. As I've said in a previous post, I think they both are on the verge of busting out, what with a new development-minded coach and all, and that their value is as low right now as it's going to be.

Once they know where they are salary-wise this year and next, they should THEN turn their attention to other free agents. Lock up the core, and then go from there. I have a feeling they won't do things in that order though.

There is probably little chance of signing either Burks or Kanter to a new contract. What do you offer them? Based on what?
Maybe Burks you could come up with a decent offer. But he likely takes the Hayward approach and believes his play will dictate a much higher contract next summer. And Kanter? Are you buying the HOPE he turns it around on defense? Or are you offering him a contract as a backup? Enes would be foolish to sign any kind of deal unless he were offered Favors-type money (which he won't be this summer).

And you can't wait on the other FA's. The better ones will all have deals in place within the next 3-7 days. Remember when Phoenix offered Raja a deal at 12:01 of Day 1?

Burks is better than Ariza and 7 years younger. I would much rather keep Burks and play Hayward at the SF. Ideally he is a SG, but he is big enough to play SF. It's not like his height is a huge advantage at SG... we never post the guy up and he showed he can be an adequate rebounder last year.

I'm not sure where all this Ariza love comes from.... Hayward is so much better than he is.

Burks is not better than Ariza. Ariza is a great player when given the correct role. I don't believe he is a "contract year" guy. I just think he was able to slide into the 3rd/4th option role with the Wizards when Beal really emerged, letting him hit his 3's and play his great defense. He would be able to do that with Utah. You could also get away with playing Ariza at the 4 in small ball lineups. Imagine playing lineups like:

Exum
Hayward
Hood
Ariza
Favors

Floor spacing and size.

Doesn't Ariza only play in contract years?

He played poorly in Houston and NOLA because his role was too big. Was injured his first year in Washington, and played his proper role his final year. Just don't put the ball in his hands too much, and let him spot-up and get out in transition and you have a great 3 and D role player with elite size.

I like Ryan Kelly, a stretch 4 who had some good games for Lakers last year. Could grow into Ryan Anderson

Michael Lee: Trevor Booker is an unrestricted free agent & has attracted interest from several teams (MIA, MIN, UTA, BKN, NYK, ORL & WAS), sources say

HA! You're wrong.

What would his role be here? We don't exactly have a ton of creators here.

Also, Burks is already a better player than Ariza is. Burks is 7 years younger... 7! Look at Ariza's numbers 7 years ago and compare them to Alec's last season. It's not close. I wouldn't pay more than mid-level for Ariza and some people are talking double that.

Whoever overpays Ariza will regret it by the all-star break.

Management views Hayward as a SG. They are trying to find a legit SF. That is Ariza. Burks is a bench scorer. He isn't on their level, sorry. If we can get Hayward and Ariza, we are trading Burks if at all possible.
Exum - starting SG

Hood - starting SF

Burkd - sixth man

The End.
