Open Practice Review

I was there and took this away from it:

Exum - Dude looked lost and tired. His athleticism is outstanding and with hard work, he could be awesome. He's 18, in a new country and looked as though he was surprised the attendance was as large as it was. He seemed overwhelmed in every way one could be in his situation. Give him time and don't expect anything for a few years...Kobe wasn't awesome at 18...

Hood - Wow! He looked like the only player there to have any NBA experience. He has hops, even on his jump shots.

Burke - I figure the unfamiliar group he was playing with impacted this, but I really expected a lot more out of him. Even one-on-one situations; unimpressive.

Gobert - Slow.

Favors - Awesome that he worked out with the young guys (which Snyder mentioned) and the only Jazz player to show up to support the youngsters. So glad he got extended.

My hope, that won't happen, is that DL says bye to GH and hello to Hood. Give him time to have huge minutes and get the growing pains over with now. Honestly, if this happened the Jazz might lose 5-10 more games than with Hayward. Spend the $ next year on a FA after everyone foolishly overpays for the LBJ consolation prize this year. We get a top 5 pick and it makes more players expendable assets.

That's NAAS-TEEH.

Gobert - Slow.
Slow running the floor? Slow compared to last year? (did he look like he put on too much weight?)

Yup.

Interesting, and contradicts the others opinions he was all over the court defending everything.

It was a great time. Fun to see the young'uns (Snyder included)
Exum was gassed earlier than most... Conditioning? Altitude? Either way he will get better with time.
Loved Hood! Make them respect the 3.. Then head fake and take it to the rim. Good stuff!
Burke looked better then anyone else, and he better as the only established NBA starter in a group of kids that most won't ever play an NBA game.
I saw one thing they need to work out... A few times the opposing team scored and Exum and Burke were the only two players on their end of the court. They were looking at each other like, "I'm the PG, you take it out." "No, I'm the PG. You pass it in to me." After a few awkward seconds Burke stepped out and in-bounded it to Dante. Trey wasn't smiling... They better get those bigs to in-bound and decide who stays back to take the pass...
On missed shots they looked more natural. Burke on one side and Dante on the other. Whoever got the rebound looked to the edge and had one or the other to pass it to. Smooth mostly.

Alot of fun.
Roll on summer league!

You see what I'm talking about hotnick? They have to straighten this **** out. And coach should break Danté's balls and let him know he should earn it first.

Hops on jumpshots? If Rodney can make his defense work at a decent level, he will be one my my favorite players on the team, if not the co-champ with Burks, Kanter, Favors, Burke.

Love Favors. Way for showing who is the elder brother of this team.

First open scrimmage and summer league hasn't even started. They will. Rookie, sophomore, first scrimmages, new coach. It won't be over night but I'm not worried about that.

Does Exum Elevate when shooting during game play? He doesn't do some half assed bunny hop like in shoot around does he? It looks like he is afraid he is going to over shoot consequently has developed a habit of under jumping to compensate. Srs his warm up looks like a rhythm killer.

Hope you're right. Because the picture I see is a two big ego playmaker guys who just will put up some dog fight. I hope the competition works for the best of the team.

Going into Homeytennis mode for a second....

Did anyone notice Chris Roberts?
Not at all. I mean i saw him but he was almost invisible. Washburn didnt do much either.

Murphy looked ok

He did not seem very athletic at duke.

I agree. I was shocked by his hops!

His defense was always solid at MSU.

One think you have to remember about Duke is that they were a small team that played small at nearly every position. That is going make everyone on defense look worse since the team is always going have mismatches against them every game.

His individual defense was weak last night but his team defense was pretty good, if that makes sense

Lol

The last play of the first quarter on defense really showed the kind of lateral quickness he has, as he smothered two good moves and drew an airball.

Really great defense on that play....... although it was against mardy collins. Still really good defense and his defense (exum) was consistently good most of the night

Gobert was a total bad ***.
Dont know how nasty style missed that.... offensively he didnt do much i guess (except.make good passes and no mistakes)

Also contradicts what Quin said in his post-scrimmage workout. He was pretty pleased with the play of Gobert.

Gobert was everywhere on defense

Does Exum Elevate when shooting during game play?

No
Most of his outside attempts were open set shots with very little elevation

I'm not a Hayward homer, but after a scrimmage you are ready to boot Hayward and hand Hood the starting 3 spot? Not so sure about that...
I agree.
I loved hood but im positive hayward is better than him

I prefer that they pick up a cheaper sf to start and have hood be the backup.

It's hard to really hold an augury based on one practice, but there is a lot to be excited about. This is good and it will get better.

What I'm excited for is Coach Q. Dude's chatty with fans, explaining what he wants to accomplish (an offensive system? Really?), and answering questions honestly?

Contrast that with Corbin, and this guy is going to be better by miles. There is hope in that.

There was one play when Exum was on defense, ball went off the rim, bounced in front of him on the baseline, and the opposing team ran over and boarded it. Exum just stood there thinking the ball would come to him or something, not sure what happened. Everything else he did defensively looked promising though.

Also when Coach Q was talking about our backcourt, he did mention Gordon but called him Gordon Haywood.

Another thing, I'm positive Favors doesn't come to Summer League activities if Corbin was still coach. I think he is legitimately excited for Corbin to be gone and for Coach Q.

That's all I noticed that hadn't already been said before.

Yeah, hopefully TV will do him justice, but in person, he just kept going up! I had no idea he was so athletic.
