I have no idea who the speaker is, or what a "Montreal Style Massacre" is. From reading the comments section (many of who seem just shrill and condesending) I guess she's some lady who doesn't like video games (or probably more accurately, a subset of them), probably due to some feminist belief that she holds?
Type "gamergate" into Google. It's a huge controversy that's been going on for a while. It amazes me how much misogyny still exists in tech culture today. Just amazes me.

That being said, the whopping 5 minutes of research I did just left me more confused. This lady is famous for being a critic of what she considers anti-women tropes in video games, and it's pissed off a bunch of "hardcore" gamers for some reason. None of which I can really understand, mostly because I don't understand how a feminist critic affects them in any way.
You're amazed at misogyny in a male dominated industry? Fair enough I guess. Seems extremely predictable to me.

I hope they catch this dude and he becomes someones bitch in prison. Poetic justice
I could be wrong here, but haven't the courts established that guns can't be banned at a public university?
The commenters on the article at this link (besides making themselves look silly with their foul language) seem to think that a public school can just do whatever they want while ignoring state laws.
Think of all the reasons I annoy you.

And not to trivialize the situation, but it does seem unusual for this type of threatened attack to be announced in this fashion.
But it looks like whoever made the threat accomplished their goal, at least in the short-term.

School in Chicago Offers Scholarships For 'League of Legends'
By Douglas Belkin
Prospective students compete for a spot on the nation's first varsity videogame team. At stake: a scholarship that might be worth $50,000.
Has "feminism" really come to trolling video gamers and makers for creating/having sexy avatars?
If that was her "interesting perspective" than she's irrelevant and didn't deserve any compensation offered by the University anyway.
