I've only watched Clippers game after Burke's game winner against the Knicks so i have almost no info on what's going wrong?

What the heck is wrong with this team? It's not a trolling thread. I wanna know about this team coz when i stopped watching we were hustling, playing in every game.

It is so depressing that this is a legitimate question based on how excited I was during the preseason - but it's totally valid. I still think we're better this year and will finish with a better record.

The main issue now is inexperience/lack of confidence as well as we just don't have enough proven/consistent players. Couple those things with the fact everyone is acclimating themselves to a totally new system/principles on both ends of the court, and you get what we've seen thus far with the Jazz.

My faith is still strong in DL, Quin and our core though. Just got to hope for small improvements for the next year or two...

I don't think so, but I can see the arguments for it.

I will say the Jazz are in more games than not so far, and frankly would have won a few of them if they could either manage to hit a FT once in a while, or could manage to not have just dreadful 2nd quarters.

I do think their bench is very weak this year. Frankly I would bring Burks and Kanter off the bench (and I know Snyder made a lineup adjustment that cycled the minutes to those guys playing with the 2nd unit), but there's an ego thing there to deal with I guess. Or hell, Burks and Favors and start Gobert and Hood. Just anything to mix things up at this point, but when it's the bench + Hayward scoring becomes dreadful.

At this point I would say we're painfully in the same position as for 'winning now' than last year, except with younger players who are supposed to have an upside to them. Hope this plan leads us to more than getting blown in the 1st round of the playoffs...

I think we expected the transition to a new style of basketball to go smoother than it did. Not sure how realistic that is when your team has been playing under the same system for 25+ years. I do think we will get better as the year goes on.

On another note, is it possible to run Quin's system properly without better shooters?

I think we are worse as that team had Marvin and RJ who were legitmitate NBA players. Now we are so so young.

We suck more than last year. I do like that we are finally getting an idea of what we have, unlike in years past where there were many unknowns due to the lack of minutes younger players were getting.

The young players got loads of minutes last season, but their performance was all Ty's fault, according to the average Jazzfanz poster. The truth is, talent reveals itself pretty quickly, and these guys simply aren't as good as many thought.

Pretty straight-forward thinking there, sadly I'm starting to see some truth in this statement, bearing Exum becoming a pleasant surprise. I hold to my everlasting thought that Hayward is not a #1 option for a contender. I wished he was, but he isn't. Sorry Hayward'ers.

Still, I think Hayward's playing better than 80 percent of this forum expected.

Considering Parsons' struggles, Hayward's better shooting, game winning plays he made early this season.

Hayward's much better than i thought he would be this season.

The team is younger, less experienced and under a new coach...

The team is younger, less experienced
This new mantra is overstated IMO. People hated RJ and had mixed feelings about Marvin. Sure, they don't have the same veteran presence (other than Novak), but the young guys are a year older and the Jazz have arguably better depth this season than last:

Evans, Marvin, RJ, Garrett ===> Gobert, Booker, Hood, Ingles, Exum (plus Evans and Novak)

Better depth talent wise sure. Not better experience wise.

Look at all the stupid mistakes they make. Yes the core are a year older but as a group are still very young.

I think this team is better than last years. I'm just not upset that it will take time to show.

Hayward, Favors, and Gobert are the only players to make significant improvements from last year. And Gobert still can't see enough time on the court because of his hands and the poor floor spacing he provides.

Kanter has gotten slightly better.

Burke is pretty much the exact same player from last year.

Burks has regressed, though I think he was on the verge of figuring it out. Not sure how much the shoulder will hold him back.

Exum is a ****ty backup PG right now. Garret was much better last year.

Hood of this year is worse than Jefferson of last year.

Marvin Williams > Joe Ingles.

Kanter as a backup PF > Booker as a backup PF

So yeah, I would say we are worse this year until Burks/Kanter/Burke make some improvements, Favors decides to bring it every night, Exum learns how to score, or Gobert starts being able to play more minutes while not hurting us too bad offensively.

This. The realization sucks. We all thought (myself included) that a favors/kanter front court would be better than big al/Paul... the combo has turned out to be a total bust. Add that to Burke's (and burks') underperformance the truth hurts, doesn't it? Bright side for me has been Hayward. Albeit I still think he's not a max player nor a #1 option, he has exceeded my expectations.

I thought I heard that jazz starting lineup is the youngest in the league or something

Great post.
Can't argue against any of it

I agree.
He was playing like a good 3rd option of a contender.
Now i can comfortably say he can be a great number two option.
In other words, he can be the "Monta" right next to Dirk. A "Dirk" is needed though.
