Trade - Kanter and Burke for Isaiah Thomas and TJ Warren (proposed)

Remember how Hayward would have gotten less if he maxed out the year before?

Max salaries are a percentage of the cap.

We are assuming Kanter has the potential to receive a max offer sheet, which will be more next year if the cap goes up.
I don't get you.
Players sign contracts with $ figures, not %. They sign as per current cap regulations, not future as salary cap is established annually. If Kanter signs max deal this year it will be 2015 max which will be set coming July and won't become 2017 or 2018 max later on.

Obviously, if you are after max than the more you drag out the signing the more you can get as max contract goes up with the cap but once you signed, future cap increases are not your concern.

Jazz Hater!

You don't have any faith in this team. Nor the ability to use foresight to identify what to do for the future.

In 4 years from now, history will repeat it's self and we will have an argument about what should have been done in this situation. And you and others will call it hindsight.

The Jazz risk losing Kanter for nothing, or even worse, maxing him out at some ridiculous number, hindering our team for years.

Trade Kanter now, before it's too late 2015

If I were DL, I'd be exploring the hell out of trades for Kanter. I understand the motive. It's your **** trade idea I have a problem with, and the fact that you think we'd have a potential playoff team THIS YEAR by adding a no-defense midget and rookie. Hilarious.

Tell me, in an all-time fantasy draft, where would you select Isaiah Thomas??

You might be right.

I am right.

This one easy. Winning in the NBA is about being bold and making bold moves, and not waiting til it's too late. Sometimes that takes risky decisions.

It's clear, the Jazz have their front court set now. It's Gobert and Favors. We didn't expect this, but nevertheless it's here. We have to decide, or else we lose value.

We can't max Kanter and bring him off the bench.

With Rudy starting and Thomas and Warren on the team then we might be able to make a push for the playoffs this year. We could be pretty good.

Without a trade, we get a pick in the 6-10 range which is a great asset, either to strengthen the team or use in a trade. I doubt we make up the ground to be in the playoffs, but maybe we pass up Denver and Sacramento. Projection: 12-14 selection.

As for our "bigs" in Gobert, Favors and Booker, I like Trevor, but the talent drop-off is pretty steep. Kanter WILL get paid. But it's an affordable contract.

That's not my point. I'm not saying how great Thomas is. Im trying to point out its a possible and a plausible deal. And as I explained adds a certain unique flavor to our team that could make us really good. I already gave my comparisons to JJ Barea. Do you disagree that Barea was instrumental in that championship run for Dallas? If you do, it means you weren't watching.

You haven't even digested what I originally said. Go back and read it, and think about it. Small can work, and can be a weapon. We have Exum, he will still be the main guy, but not til later, and Thomas will play backup. At 6 mil, it's a good deal.

I hope you get a good deal for your crack.

Who cares though. We have a core to build around. That rookie won't be ready for years probably. This team needs to start winning soon. It's a crucial growth period mentally for these players we have. I think the Tanking has to come to an end next year for sure, and don't really care for this year either. I'm ready for the winning to start. With Gobert we are ready to win.

The trade might not make us great right away anyways.

Previously I was never a fan of Thomas, but at 7.2 million he is a hellava an asset. The nice thing is that with Favors and Gobert you can play a dude like that. As we build the team, we are going to need to get somebody like him eventually and if Kanter isn't going to be a fit as a backup, he is far better than signing him for a lot of money then trying to shove him in that role. He is never going to start if the other bigs are healthy. If he is OK with that, then lets reup him. If that is going to be an issue, I would start the bidding with Thomas and see if we could get better.

Phoenix just acquired Brandan Wright, Len is developing, and Plumlee does his job. Then, they have Thomas in his best role and at good value. Then, they have a guy on a cheap contract for the next 3.5 years.

But, yeah, they'll take Kanter. This is totally plausible. Let it sink in, yall.

Of course I'm so high on the Gobert/Favors Crack that I'm looking at the Jimmer and thinking Dude can hit an open three, we can get him open threes. We could also cover his defensive breakdowns. We could also probably sign him and only give him the pay he would earn driving the bus. . . So, yeah, I'm pretty hopped up. . .

I think the point is that the most Utah would have to match is a max contract at about $15M with 4.5% raises. The cap skyrockets in 2016, but we still have him at $15-$17M over the life of his contract (assuming he's offered a max deal, which is not a given). In 2016, 25% max contracts could start in the $22M range. I'll bet the Jazz offer a Favors'-type deal for 4/$48M and end up somewhere in between. I may be wrong, but I just don't see another team giving him $15M/per. But even if they do, a $16M average contract might be extremely valuable in 2017 and 2018.

Teams need four bigs. We have four (for now). It's not a guarantee Booker stays around after next year and the cost of getting another (or even re-signing him) is going to be VERY high in 2016 with every team in the league awash in cap space. Sure, there's a bit of a problem over which two start. But the main three can all get 30 mins. And there are always injuries. Favors usually misses several games, as does Enes. Safe to assume Rudy will do the same when he starts playing 30/per on a regular basis.

And moving forward, what happens when Favors comes up for a new deal? Are the Jazz going to pay him 20M+? Or maybe he decides he wants to play somewhere else; he will be an UFA. At that point, we can recommit to Derrick, or have Enes start. Hopefully by then we have also drafted or signed some additional depth.
