Should They Match?

I was wrong. So far.

So I was I. But at the time I didn't know the cap would be increasing by a ton.

Also, I don't think that "so far" is the right term. We were wrong. He's clearly worth it considering the upcoming new cap. Also Hayward is a lot better this year than last.

I'm skeptical of the "this contract won't be so bad as the cap rises" argument. It's not like Eric Gordon's deal is getting more palatable as time goes on.

Isn't Luol Deng available at 75% of this cost?

lol.

Takes a big man to say he was wrong more posters should be like this. I hate when posters know they are wrong but continue being hitched to their false ideas.

I'm sorry, Hayward is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Jazz since the Stockton-Malone days.

That sounds like when my wife apologizes for something she clearly knows she wrong on but is still mad.

I'm not sure why people still harbor some resentment... You'd be happier if you moved on and just enjoyed watching our best player play.

Just wanted to say: I was all in for Gordon! *confirmed*

Is he adidas, nike or under armour?

Trevor Ariza is reportedly looking for 9-11 million per year.

Id also Pick up Francisco Garcia on a vet min or close deal, he can still give 15-20 mins per night of decent 3 and d ball. Kent Bazemore. Tyler Honeycutt if Bazemore and Garcia are off the market.

Whats wrong with keeping a big chunk of the $ and staying flexible til next years free agent period? maybe the Jazz can finagle another 2017 1st round pick in exchange for cap space in the meantime.

The Jazz could start next offseason by offering on a wave of Restricted guys, then go after a Center, like Brook Lopez.

Oh my….this one is great.

Ariza has sucked this year…a lot.

And then Brook Lopez…hahahahaha.

It's that whole Denial, Anger, Acceptance thing.

And, I think we're very jazzed (pun intended) over the tease Quin gave everyone in the open practice. Up-tempo, free-flowing offense should fit Hayward much better. I think Gordon is really going to like Quin.

But no, I haven't changed my opinion. I still don't think the Jazz should match (but they will). And I hope Hayward turns into a 20/5/5 player who shoots 45%/40 and makes me eat my words. If he does, I will openly admit I was wrong...but only if he does not then opt out after Year 3 and demand $20M+.

Yeah, that Hayward guy would be such an ******* if he went out and tried to get the most money that he could. Doesn't he care about me?! I mean, who does that? Who would try to maximize his value like that? What an *******.

Just have to be happy that we matched the offer. I was listening to Zach Lowe today on his podcast and he stated that with the cap moving up in future years, and the numbers Gordon is producing, we actually got Gordon for a STEAL.

Now, think about what we are paying Favors. . .

Don't be so moody.
That was a solid overall post by stifle tower and he basically nailed his evaluation of Hayward during in with quin (damned best got Hayward numbers right too)

It's ok for stifle to be upset if Hayward tries to get a bigger contact after a couple of years. I will be upset about it too.
Imo Hayward on a cheaper contact is preferable to Hayward on a more expressive contract.
We are fans and we like it when players take less money to help the team.
It doesn't mean we expect it though

*switches irony mode off
But yes I've moved on, my resentment for Hayward's contract was getting old, I just hope he ends living up to his expectations.

1) He didn't nail that evaluation. He said he hoped Hayward would put up those numbers, but he very clearly didn't think he would.

2) Saying he'll be right about not liking this contract if Hayward decides to do the smart thing and maximize his earning potential is stupid. I mean, that logic is horrifyingly idiotic.

3) Of course I want Hayward as cheap as we can get him, but to get mad at the guy and dislike him because of it is a bitchmade attitude, and I detest it. It would make more sense to get mad at our GM. But yeah, let's get mad at a player for doing the logical thing.

I read through half the thread, and didn't see a post of mine but I was all in for Hayward. Happy we kept him.

So there is a difference between liking a player and having fun seeing him on our team and not wanting to pay too much. You cannot draw a parallel between voting not to match and desiring to "get rid" of a player. That is a false dichotomy.

I like Hayward, always have, and wanted to have him on our team. I enjoy watching him play and am glad he is here. I think he does good things on the court for the most part.

I just didn't think we should pay him as much as we did. He is still not at an all-star level, but he is getting all-star pay. I hope he gets there, especially now that we have already bought the cow, so to speak.
