Jazz waive Brantley

I think more players should and will do this. He isnt going to be more than a min player in the NBA and over there he can make some real money and nice benefits. It is like Udoh leaving NBA/Utah. Why would he stay with the Jazz as a 3rd string vet min contract when he can get lots of playing time and make 6-10 million in a short season ad get everything else paid for like nice housing.

Yeah, Jazz brought him in, developed him as a pro, and sent him off to have a career in Europe. He's just a situational defensive player in the NBA.

Best of luck to him, and congratulations if he does indeed end up with a nice European contract. Never quite found a role, and the endless end-of-the-bench churn caught up with him. Hard for the Jazz to continue to hold out hope for additional significant improvement at age 25.

(Remember when we were all complaining about Ty Corbin playing washed vets like the 26-year-old Marvin Williams? Yeah, good times.)

It sounded as though it was mutually beneficial. I still think we could probably have afforded the 90k hit though. Not that you just want to give money away but we could have just had that as a parting gift and no problem. I mean DL is getting paid more to “consult”. My dream was always to get paid to do nothing… like those ESPN guys they want off air but still have a year or two left on their deals so they just pay them to sit in the sidelines. DL smarter than us all.

I wish Brantley success wherever he goes. Seems like a solid dude.

I think I read something that it will save >$350k with tax implications. They traded a second rounder to save less than that with Tucker....but $350k is still complete chump change in the NBA. I'm with you, I wish they gave Brantley his money and these small things can go a long with with player/agent perception in the future.

Yeah I undersold the tax part I guess.

Good move for both sides. I am in the camp of giving Oni another year unless something really good comes up as an alternative.

Today the Rockets signed DedEx to a really complicated deal. In doing so they had to release Tyler Bey who was a second round pick in 2020 and taken three spots higher than Eliza Huge. He played for the Stars last year in the bubble and was arguably their best player. This is also the second time he has been waived this year with the Mavs doing the honor first. He is 6'7" with a seven foot wing span and played at Colorado. Camp deal perhaps?

One thing I can't figure out from the Exhibit 10 info I see (since Bey was on an Exhibit 10). Does the player have to participate in (at least some) training camp for the Exhibit 10 stuff (bonus for player, g-league rights for team) to be valid? Or is that still on the table for Bey and the Rockets even though he didn't make it to training camp?

It is weird that he hasn't been able to stick longer (in multiple places already). And it's not like the Rockets were overflowing with players at his position. Wonder if there's something more than a talent issue going on.
