Jackpotting Around: A Utah Jazz Podcast

you said the same on your podcast. i think you went to far in the other direction. coudos to you though for putting together a podcast. please remember that if you want jazz fans to listen some of your trades need to actually favor the jazz. just saying.
Dude I try to not do this often, because the online spelling police are irritating.

But it’s “kudos” my man. I let you know this to save you future embarrassment, because as soon I read “coudos” above I immediately discarded the rest of the point you were trying to make.

I'll give another couple episodes a listen during the run up to the trade deadline - so good job.

I disagree with HH though on the need to increase Kessler's minutes this year.
WK needs to develop just a bit of a mean edge to mature into a well rounded defense centric big man.
Say about .387 that of Bill Lambier for those of you old enough to have watched him.

Full Bill Lambier is bad. Never go full Bill Lambier.
.387 Bill Lambier paired with WKs impish smile is a winning and respectable creation.

I'm gonna focus less on whether I agree or disagree with your takes, and more on the content and presentation at a general feedback level.
  • Name of the pod is REALLY good. I'm sure there would be a lot of great names derived from actually being an Art & Chad duo, but I think you chose one of the best ones possible.
  • I like the fact that you had a clear theme to the episode and I think you didnt drift too far from it at any point.
  • The start was clunky but once you got going it sounded really fluid and professional. Maybe script the intro and/or record it afterwards in which case you can also headline all the topics you are gonna touch if you flow into other topics
    • If you plan on streaming live pods then you can do that by setting a fixed agenda and using timers to ensure you dont stick to one subject for too long
  • Both of you have very good presentation skills, which I kinda expected tbh. On few takes you made some harsh/extreme statements (like about JHS), but whether you wanna be political or harsh is your choice. I personally prefer more political approach whenever you make a negative take.
  • There is good chemistry between you two. That was pleasant to the listener. There is definitely potential, as chemistry is imo #1 thing for successful pods.
  • There is always the balance of "being real" vs "pleasing target audience". Casual fans want to hear "dream trade scenarios", which rarely come true... but I personally like your approach.
Overall I enjoyed a lot it even if I'm more of a 30min pod guy. Gained a follower.

This is exactly what we’re looking for feedback wise. Thank you so much, truly.

I think myself and HH have so many trade ideas we legit could have gone on for another hour or so. Future pods will be shorter around that 30 minute sweet spot I’d imagine.

I can't listen right now. I'm currently practicing semen retention. I'll listen as soon as I fold.

This. Appreciate the feedback and support. Definitely gonna tighten things up time wise. Trade deadline rumors and slop are likely to be juicier topics so likely pushing the upper time limits in those seasons.

Is this supposed to be a legit Jazz podcast or just like fan service for the forum (as in being like self referential, inside jokes, etc)?

Congrats guys. I just finished listening to about 40 min, so here is some early feedback:
- Great name (the podcast, not yours :D ). If I remember correctly, I think Jerry used it to describe Fez.
- Use some catchy intro music that people can relate to the tone of the podcast or you. I don't know, something like Temper Trap' Sweet Disposition or whatevs. As of now, you sound closer to Bach's Goldberg Variations :D (kidding)
- Introduce yourselves. It was the first episode, it would've been nice to hear a 30seg introduction of you and why you decided to create the podcast.
- Bring your personality. Feel free to include a joke, anecdote or a minor rambling here and there. Don't be afraid to show your personal preferences or biases once in a while. Or even get off topic for a second. It's a balance between being profesional/knowledgeable and approachable/relatable.
- Introduce the topic. This is important, as you need to set the table for next 1hr or so. For example: are we sellers or buyers? Do we want to free up time for the rookies? Are we still into asset accumulation mode? This could be disscused in the first 3-5 min. In this episode you went straight into the KO's trade.
- Rearrange the topics/talking points. Another biggie. In this day and age people have short attention spans/limited time. I would begin with the most interesting trades/topics. For example, Murray or Grimes, rather than KO for two 2nds. After you finish the ear-catching trades, you can go into "other trades" mode. There needs to be a flow that gets the listener at the beginning and is more flexible towards the end.
- Balance is appreciated. I really appreciated having the other's team perspective in mind. However, as others pointed out, maybe you can spend less time discussing why it made sense for the other team. It should be there, but maybe less emphasis and time.

I hope these are useful in the future. Good luck

I think more of the former with parts of the ladder sprinkled in.

This is great. We did a practice pod at the start of the season where we did more intro… I’m never sure how much people really care but it would make sense to revisit. Definitely will need more production but I think we both just wanted to “ship” something. All the other points were good and will help us improve… and will stop us from… wait for it… just jackpotting around.

Listening now.

HH has a solid podcast voice. Easy to understand, solid pacing. Can't pronounce Olynyk.

Wish there was more banter. Elizah needs to talk more(?) Honestly y'all sound kind of similar so sometimes I forget who is talking.

Generally, 30 minutes is all I can give, but trade deadline should be exciting and I had no problem listening to the full hour. Some other subjects though is another story. My biggest thing is just don’t spend too much time on one segment. Less is more.

I'm the opposite. The longer the better.

And release them on weekdays, not weekends.

Good work. Enjoyed it. Nice work!!

I too like a shorter format fwiw. Also get into Apple or whatever RSS feeds that lets my overcast or pocketcast-like apps find you. If you need hosting, reach out.

Ladder reminds me of a joke I heard.

You have a step ladder your using to paint or whatever and you say to someone, "this is my step ladder, I never knew my real ladder"
Dad joke

Finally clicked the link to see if I can listen to it and I can! Don't need Spotify or whatever so that's a good start.
I will listen to it when I go back to work on Wednesday and give my thoughts.

Thank you. I heard it when I said it and was like why’d you say it that way lol.

I think we will get better with this too and I agree. Right now I think both of us are too mindful of interrupting the other.

Very constructive… thank you.
