The Rest of the Season Plan - Kind Of

Maxey is probably my #1. Not just because of his game but also because he seems to be a top-notch guy who would be great as a teammate. He would probably be on the Jazz Mount Rushmore Hall of Fame as far as all-time Jazz player favorites go.
Agreed

Maxey isn't going anywhere. I think the 76ers just max him outright, and would certainly match any max offer he got elsewhere.
I agree

My fears for these trades

Jazz revamp Kevin Knox and he starts to play to his draft position. Ok not happening but needed a laugh.

OPJ resurrects his career and he s becomes a valuable asset off the bench for the jazz.

Kira Lewis puts up his college shooting percentages and similar stats and he eats into the Jazz salary cap next season because his offer to make him a RFA is like 7 million and he is not worth that unless he does what's mentioned above.

I would prefer to convey our pick to OKC this year but being a draft guy I kinda want to keep it.

I hate to ruin Markkanens prime years but this tanking is doing that unless that brings in a superstar or 2.

I don't mind if we get a little worse in the short term. What bothers me is that we lost the structure of the team. Without Tech there are no good options to go 5-out, unless Hendricks' game magically matures over the weekend or the 2022 version of Otto Porter Jr. makes a comeback. For the rest of the season, Ochai was perhaps the best option to replace Tech.

Without 5-outs there are no good lineups for John Collins. Our jumbo lineups with Lauri, John and Walker have not worked and John can't play with a bench unit where everyone else is below average defenders.

In effect, the plan is/was to push back the date they actually pick a direction and have a real plan. When you're trying to win or lose, it's hard to do anything "wrong". But I don't actually think it comes at zero cost. Even if Lauri signs here long term, we're still burning prime years of his careers away. It's also just kind of embarrassing to play half a season, be in a position to compete for something, than quit on that goal/reveal we never cared about that goal in the first. It's always about the big picture, I get it, but I bet most were enjoying being a fan when the team was winning. Personally, I don't find the "win-win" situations we're in very fun at all.

We're on the road to mediocre oblivion. I really don't see how we dramatically improve within 3-4 years. Particularly if we develop a player who could be a good rotation piece in a really good team and then trade him because we don't want to pay. Yet we'll still pay dead end dudes like Clarkson and Collins

Next season gonna be a big eye opener for a lot of people i think. I will happily be proved wrong but i fear we're about to hit a bit of a wall.

We may be 2 years away..... from beeing 2 years away. At that stage, i still believe in the strategy to develop players and and one or 2 good players next season. But i may be wrong and we may be stuck for a long period.

My fear is the team uses their cap space on another Conley or Favors type player (older and paid too much and won't move the needle enough) and potentially give up too much to get them (or get rid of them). The 1st rd. pick we owe OKC was to take Favors off Utah's hands. Poor management. They got into that position in the first place, and Jazz fans basically knew it when we got him back.

The pick needs to convey in 24. 25 is strong and 26 we have swaps.
