Man, was that ever not the case during the Vietnam War era. On both counts. Johnson, Nixon, made no difference at all then. Of course, in those days it was Buddhist monks setting themselves on fire.Could you imagine how an American Serviceman lighting himself on fire in protest would be covered if Trump were president? Imagine being so out of touch that you think it wouldn't be covered any differently.
"The difference between Republicans and Democrats is that when a Republican is president it’s time to yell and scream about any bad things he does, whereas when a Democrat is president it’s time for brunch." - Caitlin Johnstone
I recall thinking much the way you do, some 55 years ago, during that era. About the oligarchy you mention. Not sure I ever really abandoned that perspective. But then I long ago went past that. I prefer it if the voyage of Columbus never happened, lol.
Left field here: https://www.alunathemovie.com/ Our troubles run far deeper than entrenched oligarchies. Our problems are as deep as how we understand ourselves and our place in the natural world. And Elder Brothers like the Kogi have much they can teach us, the Younger Brothers. Like I said, left field, seemingly, to the topic. But I believe our civilization itself has deeper problems caused by a lack of understanding that a people like the Kogi, and other so-called uncontacted people do not lack. Nonetheless, I voted in recent elections, lol…
Adopting a very similar take as you have certainly contributed to decades of being apolitical in my case. But, I guess I don’t want to see things get even worse, and I do believe certain individuals can make things far worse. Obviously, Trump tops my list of such individuals. I do believe, beyond any entrenched oligarchy, evil individuals can make matters worse. And I do believe Trump never feels regret at hurting people. I can still feel sympathy for him, though. Why? Because he truly does not know himself. He’s a deeply, deeply hurt individual. I can still recognize his humanity. Thankfully. Is it a case of there but for the grace of….? It’s a case of all being in the same boat, fundamentally, but that doesn’t mean I must accept Trump or not oppose his demagoguery.
Yeah, quite a few built-in problems, esp. if you believe as you do, but I cant make believe Trump is not a wrecking ball to those institutions that deserve to be protected, including the document known as the constitution.
