Significant weight loss has to happen in the off-season. Possibly in-season if you are just stuck to the bench and not playing games. So in that context, he has really only "failed" one off-season. Still has time to turn his weight around. That's why it's interesting to sign him now. You can get him to stay in SLC for the majority of the off-season. See if he's coachable in terms of diet/exercise/working out. See if his body responds well to those demands. See if there is actually hidden potential or if he's just a fat guy who got incredibly good at leveraging his mass in a league that has generally gotten leaner.
