2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

I think I like him more than both guys tbh. I think he might be top 3-4 for me. I know it was just Stetson but I’m impressed how he seems to be able to just make smart cuts and make quick passes. I’m sure he wanted to be a full time pg but I’m really impressed he was able to make an impact within what they want to do. Think he’s been a “star in his role” which bodes well.
He’s kind of the perfect fit for what we have if he ends up working out. Even if we change stuff out the big playmaking guard who is a plus defender is one of the most valuable things in the league.

Slightly hot take. Rob Dillingham ends up sliding past pick 10 unless someone trades up for him.

Him and Hendricks would be a good pair of 3&D wings
I’ve never seen a player that looks as young as him. Seems like he has the frame to go into the lab that turned Hayward from Opie to Captain America and have a good result. If we trade up from 28 he’s the guy I’d be targeting.

I think Castle is at a fairly similar level to Cason/Black last year. Where would we put them in this year’s draft?

I don't have Castle on par with either of those guys. Although, if you see Black as a defensive 2/3 rather than an on-ball guy I guess that makes some sense. Wallace was seen as a near-elite POA defender who was also a very solid shooter. Black was supposed to be a guy who could play at the 1 with a size and athleticism advantage to compensate for his lack of shooting. Personally, I don't think Castle is either of these things at this stage of his development. Not saying he can't expand his game, but he's not there yet for me.

I went back and forth on Black. I do think it was fair to bring up the question of, "is Black even a PG?". Obviously not all PG's are the same, positions are just labels, but some of his skills were suspect imo. I thought he was really good at getting to the basket (and getting to the FT line) with the ball, but I do think he lacked certain qualities that most NBA's have. Obviously the lack of shooting, especially off the dribble, made it a big question mark if he could ever be a leading ball handler. I was also concerned about his POA defense as he was consistently getting wiped by on ball screens and getting blown by with straight line drives against smaller players. On top of that, he was getting a lot of comparisons to truly elite pass (Lonzo, Giddey), but I do not think he was on that level. A big part of his case was that he was a big PG....but were his skills good for a PG, or just good for being 6'7? Time will tell, but he might get caught in between where he's a big PG with below average skill or just an average sized wing with plus skills.

That was a tangent, anyways....

I have Castle on par with them. The size/athleticism difference between he and Black is marginal imo. I wouldn't say Castle is more polished or skilled than Cason, but he's bigger than him and more polished than Black. I think Cason has the most PG, but I think all kind of fit a similar place on the team. I find it hard to separate their levels. IMO, the thing that those two had that Castle does not is defensive playmaking. Castle's stocks aren't terrible, but that aren't nearly as good. I see him getting a lot of good reviews for his on ball defense, but that's something I need to watch more film on to form a true opinion. But I'm always a little skeptical of "good defenders" that don't have great stocks. The overwhelming majority of good perimeter defenders in the NBA were high stocks guys. Not all of them, but most were higher than Castle. If I feel confident that Castle can be a strong, versatile defender across multiple positions I may have to move him very high.

IMO, Castle really needs the shooting to happen in order to get substantial NBA minutes. If it does, then great. If not, then I think he gets relegated to that 2/3 who likely comes off the bench, and there isn't all that much that separates him from a guy like Josh Green. I get that he's a ball mover, and he's got self-creation from mid-range and some extra ability to drive, but it's questionable if a playoff-caliber team will want him to do those things consistently. Looking at Kris Dunn as an example, he's a really fantastic on-ball defender who can guard three positions, make reads and bully his way deep into the paint, but the lack of shooting and spacing (based on volume and consistency) literally pushed his career to the brink.

Since we're talking about it, it's worth mentioning that Sensabaugh has been struggling from deep for multiple games. I know the games are mismatches right now, but it's still a bit worrisome.

I think the same could be said for Black.

Terrance Shannon Jr is probably a lotto pick if not for the rape allegations. He is a solid to good defender. He can score at all 3 levels. He is a decent shooter. Decent rebounder and he is a willing passer.

His trial in May is going to be huge.

Why is Cody Williams not starting for Colorado? I see him very high on mock drafts... weird.
