The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Is PHI going to have Embiid go the whole way? Or are they just gonna lose. Seems like those are their choices.

If you're implying that the only reason that they didn't get Pascal is bc he can't fit with Sabonis...yeah idk how much I believe that. Why did they not trade for any other player they could of gotten that would have fit with Sabonis? Those players exist. Trades don't just happen out of thin air. Could have been a million reason why they didn't trade for Siakam, I don't even think your scenario makes much sense because Siakam would be fine with Sabonis. He would have helped them. But let's just take your made up scenario and make it true. The Kings cannot trade for Siakam because they have Sabonis. That sucks...but the other side of that is you have Sabonis. The Kings are not better off without Sabonis so they can acquire guys who would fit if he wasn't there.

If you want to put the offense on Keon, I think that's hilarious but to each their own. Keon played great and minutes he took were from guys who were awful. Even if the Kings were "forced" to play Keon or whatever, he was still a good player on both ends so you can't put any blame on him. The difference in level was obviously the same guys playing at worse level. Again, nothing to do with the fit. The Kings disappointment this season is not because of fit. It's the same fit, worse performance.

Kewl… part of the reason they won’t be able to add just any talented player that comes available is the distinct and obvious limitations of one of their best and highest paid players. Kings were rumored to be in on the deal and pulled out. I’m sure there was some price they were willing to risk it. If you don’t understand that very good players can also have limitations that will make it very hard to be a contender I’m not sure what to tell you. I’m not arguing they are better without him. I’m not arguing they should trade him. I’m saying when they hitched their wagon to a big that does not stretch the floor and can’t anchor a good defense and Fox while giving up their best asset to do so they limited where they could go a bit. Especially with the understanding that with the cap this is going to be their team.

Can a title contender be built around Sabonis? Gonna say not likely but if not was they’d have a real rim protector that also stretched the floor.
I'm not going to move the goalposts and change the end goal. To be a consistent playoff team, fit around Sabonis is one of the last things causing them issues. We've seen Sabonis with a rim protector with some stretch to them, didn't mean anything because the overall level was still poor. If you have Sabonis, there are going to be players that don't fit with him. This is true and is also true for most players including some who are way better than him.

I acknowledged that players can have limitations, it's directly in the post you quoted. Having Sabonis is still well worth it for accomplishing their goals. I do not believe the Kings had an expectation of being title contenders this season. Some in this thread have argued if their season was even a disappointment at all. For me, it was a disappointment because they didn't make the playoffs. Maybe we disagree on what the expectations are....but I feel like before you can be upset about not being a title contender, you ought to at least be a playoff team. Let's be real here, if you can't make the playoffs what are we even talking about as far as being contenders.

I don't even see the Kings having an overall talent level to be a playoff team. If they made the playoffs, they'd easily be the least talented of the group. They are a team that punches above their weight. If you don't have the talent, I have a hard time saying it's a style issue and saying that their best player is a big part of the issue. Sure, Sabonis may make some players off limits as upgrades...but he's also really good and he also makes other players better. Is their inability to add a defensive, non shooting big or the difficulty in finding one who does both really what led to disappointment this year? I don't think so.

They can't even make the playoffs with a regular season force like Sabonis on their team. To me, that's the alarming thing they need to worry about and that is a consequence of having such a poor roster. For all his faults, I really do not see the Kings poor/disappointing season as an indictment on his ability to provide value in the RS. I definitely do not see SAC as a franchise that's championship or bust. Like I said, I think their goal is to just be a consistent playoff team because at the moment they aren't even that. I don't see Sabonis as the roadblock in that effort. But even if it's championship or bust....When your overall talent level isn't good enough to make the playoffs, that is also your biggest issue when trying to be a contender.

Is this Bob Meyers on the broadcast? He's awful....but I just know the twitter nerds who see themselves in him are going to eat this up. Can they go 5 minutes without talking about how amazing he is?

I never knew Oubre was this good of a defender. He was marauding Brunson, was crazy to see. Knicks got some really streaky shooting and were lucky that Embiid was hurt -- but you always need a little luck in basketball.

It’s the west… they are a playoff quality team… just like the Warriors. I’m not sure what you are arguing about. I never said they are or will be contenders… but there was always going to be a ceiling to this. Talent is part of the issue… the other issues include cap, no additional draft assets, and limitations on the all star players they have. Add Jaden McDaniels or someone like that and they are better but still not a final four team in the west. I never said they needed to worry about the next 2-3 steps or whatever… simply stated this is basically what they were signing up for… and it’s better than their recent history. Ponying up the assets for pascal makes them better but they wouldn’t get the best version of Siakham or Sabonis… so ya just plug along with Barnes Heurter for now and hope Keegan levels up… or maybe you hit a home run in the draft. If they landed Chet they might be able to break through and become a conference finals team… maybe Isaac if they could get him and keep him healthy.

He called Reeves a tough defender and I laughed

Man, the Wolves are idiots. Taking a 3-time DPOY and surrounding him with dudes who can play defense instead of just a bunch of shooters. Who does that?
Dumbest trade ever!

We gave him away for a bunch of role players who aren’t even on the roster anymore and a handful of bad picks. Should’ve kept Rudy and traded away Mitchell. Conley, Lauri, and Gobert would’ve been an interesting team.

For me, I was never talking about being a contender. I was also very clear about what I was talking about voicing it several times. You are the one who kept bringing up building a contender. It was never about that for me, it was about what led to their season disappointment. Not being a playoff team is why it's a disappointment. Sabonis is a non issue when you're talking about trying to make the playoffs. If you're talking about winning a championship and thinking about the highest of highs, that's maybe a different conversation. But, if your talent level is not up to par to make the playoffs....I would also that is also the main problem as to why you're not a contender.

McDaniels is listed at 6 foot 9 and 195 pounds

Hendricks is listed at 6 foot 9 and 215 pounds

Nice

It’s pretty incredible how good they are on defense with Rudy and those other long defenders. There were so many times I kept waiting for Rudy to have to bail guys out and instead mcdaniels or Ant put up incredible resistance and got a steal or deflection. I really wonder what might’ve been had we drafted mcdaniels.
