Financial markets welcomed a U.S. court ruling that blocks President Donald Trump from imposing sweeping tariffs on imports under an emergency-powers law.

U.S. futures jumped early Thursday and oil prices rose more than $1. The U.S. dollar rose against the yen and euro.

The court found the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which Trump has cited as his basis for ordering massive increases in import duties, does not authorize the use of tariffs.

The White House immediately appealed and it was unclear if Trump would abide by the ruling in the interim. The long term outcome of legal disputes over tariffs remains uncertain. But investors appeared to take heart after the months of turmoil brought on by Trump's trade war.

This court just saved our economy. But yeah, this upends he and Bessent's entire economic strategy.

Now he just ignores them and the anemic Congress does nothing to stop him. Mind-blowing how inept it turns out our government actually is when faced with someone truly new and dangerous. Deer in the headlights when he is just doing exactly what they told us he would be doing. And everyone seems content to sit there and say "see we told you he would do this ****" as if that moral victory is all we need. I'm really afraid it will take a full-on uprising to unseat the fascists. The rest of the government is powerless to stop it, or won't make the effort. It's disgraceful. But maybe it's just time for Rome to fall. Every major country on the planet has gone through full-on and violent political upheaval to get them where they are today, except us really. We are the only one still operating from the same set of rules we have had for 250+ years. Maybe it's just our time.

The bloody four year civil war that killed more Americans than all of the wars we’ve fought combined doesn’t count as a violent political upheaval? The passing of 3 amendments doesn’t count as a second founding? Couldn’t one make an argument that we’ve had a few bloody political upheavals before? And what would a bloody political upheaval look like now? January 6? Oklahoma City bombing? Waco or Ruby Ridge? Could one make an argument that we’re in the middle of one right now with our institutions under attack, experts and expertise being forced out in favor of loyalists, and unfavorable people to this regime being disappeared to El Salvador?

How does that compare realistically to the French revolution and the beheadings of all the heads of state in the country, or Stalin and his death camps as precursors to the subsequent world wars, or nuclear bombs in Japan, or the complete rewriting of the government and hundreds of thousands of deaths under chairman Mao? No, our civil war counts as, at most, a correction and adjustment. It did not represent the complete overhaul of our entire political system, something that damn near every other developed nation experienced in the course of the same 250 years. Yes it was horrifying, but realistically paled in comparison to the others and represented nowhere near the same level of change overall. Maybe we are due for something more dramatic, but if we are lucky maybe we get by with something just on par with the changes made during the civil war, maybe this gets put down and corrected through further amendments. But maybe it will take a full-on upheaval to eradicate the fascists so pervasive in our society today.

Funny thing is that if he follows the court orders then the economy will improve and he will take credit for the improvement lol.

Yep, and add more fuel for his cronies to keep tearing the government apart and for his cult followers to keep praising his name. When the truth is just a vague concept you can play with all you want, then you can turn anything to your advantage.

President Donald Trump sparked a lot of chatter online after firing back at a reporter who asked him about a brutal yet tasty-sounding acronym his tariff policies have inspired.

But body language experts think the president’s nonverbal responses also gave viewers quite a lot to chew on.

On Wednesday, a reporter told Trump that some Wall Street analysts are dismissing his tariff threats with the slogan “TACO,” which stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” The mocking acronym references the fact that Trump has announced high tariffs, only to back off shortly after.

The president’s on-again, off-again tariffs have caused markets to tumble and then rise again. The TACO acronym was coined by The Financial Times’ Robert Armstrong.

When the reporter asked Trump to weigh in on the term, the president concluded by sharply chiding her: “Don’t ever say what you said. That’s a nasty question. To me, that’s the nastiest question.”

It’s funny to me how:

Inflation has disappeared from Trump and right wing rhetoric. How about the economy? Any good news?

And how the msm, that craved a Trump win for clicks, has completely lost interest in reporting anything about inflation. What about eggs?

So what’s the plan for the next 3.5 years? Weekly feuds like what he’s having with elon? Tariffs that he’ll raise and then chicken out on? I guess the one thing maga is successful at is hurting a bunch of brown people. I guess at the end of the day Trump can just waste the next 3.5 years sending some brown people to El Salvador and pretend that he’s making America whiter. MAGA!
