Game Thread Jul 13, 2025 08:00pm: Warriors Vs Jazz (Summer League)

What did I just see?! I think that Cody played his best basketball for the Jazz in the second half. He was scoring, passing, stealing, rebounding... He also started grabbing and pulling his player on defense, which I had never seen him doing before. And Cody was smiling and talking, which was so...

Also, Cam McGriff looks very solid (which is not surprising since he is 28).

Always has been. But he is actually more comfortable with it then during the last season. He was also been able to blow by a couple of defenders by using his first step - Cody still did not know what to do one he got close to the basket but it is too a little sign of progress.

Game Thread Jul 13, 2025 08:00pm: Warriors Vs Jazz (Summer League)

I just saw Collier starting the Warriors game by bricking two free throws. If you played PG in high school, a year in college and a year in the NBA and you still cannot do something so basic as making your free throws...you are done. He has been shooting them for probably, 10 years and was...

    Clayton or Collier?

Sure they can but it is very unlikely. The shooting problems of Collier's magnitude are very, very rarely get fixed for the guards. And how many starting PGs who spent 4 years in college do you know? Lillard (who was also drafted 5th), Brogdon and who else? It is also rare.

    Clayton or Collier?

This thread is a bit meaningless. Neither Collier, nor Clayton is a starting-level PG in the league at the moment and both of them are pretty unlikely to improve enough to become a quality starter. they could probably become solid backups but the competition to become a backup is very different...

    How bad/good is Cody Williams?

    Told you.

    How bad/good is Cody Williams?

20 pounds in a bit more then two months? We still have almost 4 months of the offseason. He will become our enforcer in the paint and will need a new nickname... something like Big Hefty.

    How bad/good is Cody Williams?

In this span of time?! So, when the season starts he will be our version of Draymond Green?

Salt Lake City Summer League: July 5-8 @ Huntsman Center

Especially, outside of Utah? Is there a way?

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Thurl is a LDS member. That is certainly one of the ways to recruit NBA players (and executives!) to like living in Utah but it is somehow underutilized.

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

I think that Sacramento and San Antonio are pretty comparable to SLC as a relatively small urban area in the less-than-desirable location. Nevertheless, somehow there are way more retired NBA players who still live in there. On the other hand, once they finished playing for the Jazz their...

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

From Reddit "I've lived near or around San Antonio most of my life and you'd be surprised by the number of role players that aren't the Big 3, George Gervin, and David Robinson still live here. George Hill has a big *** ranch outside of town, Antonio Daniels, Bruce Bowen, Antonio Daniels live...

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Oh, one more thought: in the last 30 years there were hundreds of players who spent a good chunk of their career in SLC and who are now retired. How many of them chose to live in SLC post-retirement besides Deron? I think it answers your question.

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Did they want to be drafted by the Jazz? I never heard that. But yeah, with time some people learn to like the place they had to go. And some people never do. We will see what group Ace will end up being in. The Jazz took their chances.

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Yeah, and Lauri seem to be happy in Utah now, and Memo, Gobert and AK were as well. Americans don't want to live in SLC for obvious reasons. If the Jazz want to have happy draftees they need to stick with drafting foreigners.

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

Yes, I agree "he understands that it's a good fit for him and to just embrace it". Because he does not have any other good options. However, before, during and after the draft Ace and his agent gave every possible (i.e. acceptable for NBA prospects) sign that he does not want to be on the Jazz...

Utah Jazz Select Ace Bailey, Pick 5

This is how every normal NBA player acts even when he has an issue with the team: he says the right things and the agent does all of the dirty work on his behalf. It is very clear that Ace did not want and does not want to be in Utah. It may change in the future but but for now it is what it is.

    Keeping Lauri seems increasingly pointless

I think that the problem lies with Ainge: the NBA world passed him by some time ago. All of his moves (acquiring and patiently waiting to trade Sexton and Collins, dangling Lauri, accumulating the assets for the future big game trades etc) were based on the decades of his experience and have...

    How bad/good is Cody Williams?

What we should be looking for is not his arms or legs but his core muscles: hips, lower back, abs... Those are the muscles he needs to develop so that he is not pushed around on defense and to have the stability to play through contact on offense. And those muscles are hard to see.
