I need to see him play a real NBA game. Until then, my presumption is that he's a slightly undersized movement shooter most likely coming off the bench, say like Malik Monk or Reed Sheppard.
I wouldn't try to put too much weight on Cody too quickly. If he's added 15 or 20 lbs at this point, that's enough for now. David Locke was suggesting he'd get up to 225 lbs eventually. I wouldn't go that far. He needs his mobility and whatever vertical explosiveness he can get.
Cody's offensive game is based on using his length to drive on guards and wings. The problem is that in the big leagues he runs into NBA help defenders. This is where his game is struggling to translate from the NCAA. He's not just going to be able to waltz his way to the rim during the regular...
He needs some volume to build rhythm and confidence. I just don't know where he's going to get it when there are so many superior offensive players on the team. If he's on the floor with Lauri, Ace, Flip and Keyonte or Brice, he isn't going to see the ball.
Cody just had a nice steal in halfcourt defense, he pushed the ball on the break, he found Goodwin on the wing spotup, who knocks down the 3ball. The most important thing: Cody did a fist bump. I think that's the first time I've seen Cody actually show some emotion when he makes a good play.
I have to wait and see on Walter Clayton. He's looked good in summer league. He's a really good shooter and a shooter off of movement. His defensive instincts and timing are really good, but the question is how much of it will translate when he's the smallest player on the floor. Those shooting...
Flip hasn't needed to play in Summer League after Salt Lake City, but the team completely falls apart without him. So in the interest of giving the other guys a meaningful experience, Flip needs to play.
Right now, I'd put them:
1 Ace
2 Flip
3 Walker
4 Keyonte
5 Sensabaugh
6 Hendricks
7 Cody
8 Clayton Jr. / Collier
Edit: Cody perked up in Summer League after I posted this. I'd move Cody above Hendricks, whom I still see as a Dorian Finney-Smith-type 3D wing.
Flip is much better and more dynamic creating for himself and others with the ball. As a shooter and floor spacer, he's similar to Naz Reid though. The idea is that Flip at the 5 opens the floor, and it allows Flip to go to work off the dribble, where he's becoming tough to stop. The problem is...
I think ideally Flip would play next to a big like JJJ. On offense, Flip is free to play on a spaced floor. On defense, there's someone who can guard 5s or play in drop to guard the rim. The Twolves tried to put Towns next to Gobert to lighten Towns' load on defense. It worked pretty well as a...
