NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

I think ideally Flip would play next to a big like JJJ. On offense, Flip is free to play on a spaced floor. On defense, there's someone who can guard 5s or play in drop to guard the rim. The Twolves tried to put Towns next to Gobert to lighten Towns' load on defense. It worked pretty well as a defensive scheme. However, Rudy somewhat gummed things up on the offensive side.

Maybe the Jazz can experiment with a Flip & Taylor Hendricks frontcourt this year.

Didn't a Naz Reid-Gobert lineup at times work pretty well for them? Could Flip be Naz Reid like? He stretches the floor and has skills that guys his size dont typically have. I do think you could put him next to more traditional defensive bigs. Add Ace Bailey and you got another help defending big on the floor.

Why are our rookies not playing in summer league games? I have been following very closely. Did they both get injured?

Flip is much better and more dynamic creating for himself and others with the ball. As a shooter and floor spacer, he's similar to Naz Reid though. The idea is that Flip at the 5 opens the floor, and it allows Flip to go to work off the dribble, where he's becoming tough to stop. The problem is that Flip doesn't have enough defensive presence to play the 5 defensively, so he'd need someone next to him who can take that defensive big role.

Or we need a really strong defensive team around him to mitigate him. Maybe Hendricks/Bailey can provide that if they share the court and we can keep Flip at the 5.

Definitely not a full time 5, but if the Jazz are smart about when they deploy it and with whole it could work.

I mentioned something similar in the game thread. I can see the vision.

I'm not in love with the idea of a big that can't defend, but I'm warming up to the idea of Flip being so talented offensively you have to try and make it work.

WCJ has a hammy injury he suffered near the end of the first Vegas game which is why he sat the last 5 minutes of that game.

Ace suffered a hip flexor in the last SLC SL

There’s a chance Ace gets back before Vegas ends. WCJ is finished. Tonje made his first appearance last night though.
