How would you run a simulation? Video game? I'm not joking or being sarcastic. I'm legitimately curious as to how you would run a simulation of this thing?

Si.com writers did one of these fantasy draft some years ago and to decide who win they used a simulation programme provided by this website, but I forgot what that website was.

Voting would not be necessary after the season since the player performances would become a reality instead of voters' opinion.

Ummm we are voting based on how we think players will perform and how we think they would perform alongside the players we drafted.

Example: Anthony Davis

How much will Anthony Davis improve this year? Seeing the year play out could help, but on my team the question is: How much will Anthony Davis improve this year if he had the teammates provided?

Just keep track of my vote. I've counseled a simulator or two over the years.

NBA 2K15 would be fun to run simulations with. You can set MPG for each player and just simulate, though of course we are at the mercy of their ratings.

Just use 2K14 then, I believe the ratings are updated based on players' stats on a daily basis if I'm not mistaken.


We could just use what the ratings were at the end of the season (i.e., the most updated).

It could be kind of neat if we plugged these teams into a fantasy-league or something. Or maybe it would be awful. Hopefully they'd give some respect to some more advanced (on/off split with defense/offense sub-stats) +/- statistics (and weighted contexts explored [how a team fares defensively for players identified as "big men; how a team fares offensively for players identified as "perimeter players"; the actual record of the team when a player has played or not; how a given player impacts the team offensive and defensive rebounding differential, and thus also the net team rebounding differential, perhaps you could just call it " rebounding +/-", for example]).

What I'm saying is that I hate fantasy league metrics as I know them but I've never really done one (kinda, not really).

It would still be the voters' opinion. No two people assess a player's season identically. Stats do, people don't.

The only reason why I disagree with you on this is that these drafts and subsequent tournaments are subjective based on how we feel a team would do with the players that they pick. Having up-to-date information doesn't overrule that subjective nature of voting, but it can help to inform and influence the voters. Especially with teams that are picking guys that they believe will become stars.

Those guys will look like great picks a year from now if they tear up the league and become the impact players that people project them to become. Guys like Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Alec Burks and the Greek Freak were all picked based on potential. They might not garner the votes a week from now that they could after a full season of playing like badasses.

I for one would be very curious to see how the voting changes based on what we think will happen vs. what we know actually happened.

I agree that we still won't be able get the objective outcome of the true performances if we left it to the decision of votes anyway. But there would still be a significant gap between favoring a player that put up numbers twice the other one who are expected to be same caliber players. And like Cy said; there would still be the problem of not being able to see the players actually playing each other and the chemistry they would build. I don't think there is an end to the conditions we will not be able to put together to see how they would do in real life, so leaving it there for the voters is fine to me for the sake of deciding the winner. Or we could set up 3 phases and give the teams points from preseason voting, videogame simulation and postseason voting. Or we could just open a new poll like spy vs cy matchup revisited. That also could have the flaw of not having everyone who voted in the first poll around. Maybe making each poll open would help. Just thinking and improvising loud here.

Couple of things:

-PKM is right, I love Jimmy Butler. I just do. I like players that are smart, focus on teamwork, and/or have some grit, and he's one of them. He's a grinder but also just a good talent. Athletic and big/long enough to defend well and with versatility if he's focused and engaged enough, then he makes it makes it happen; knows how to shoot; rebound (or help with team rebounding); dribble; and pass. He really cares about avoiding mistakes and winning. Sue me, I love that ****. By the way, he was on the All-Defensive 1st team last year, having a higher usage rate paired with playing a ton of minutes hurt his efficiency some, but it will also make him better. My wing rotation can be altered pretty easily.

-I would've loved to have Millsap. I need a cheat-code player right then and I pulled the trigger on one of the most unique players of all time that had one of the most amazing sustained performances I have ever seen in sports which wasn't that long ago. And by the way, he still scores a ****load of points. And age should be a little slower to hurt him, I think. Anyway, it became hard to justify when you simply have to plug needs in these things. But if he was there in round 6, I don't think I could've passed on him. He would've been perfect.

That is another thing. Do the voters read the justification explanations during the drafting process? Hell I don't think most of them read anything below the poll itself! Pretty sure many voters just look and say "this one looks better" and vote straight away. All you have left in your hands is the appreciation of the posters that like your effort and care enough to share their views. Which is fine enough for me.

I have a nutty idea for a fantasy draft that you could plug into a good program that updates with information as the season goes on. Hmm.
