2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I agree. I would only trade for Niko by himself by using Thabo and some assortment of smaller contracts (Neto, Niang, Bradley).

Thabo, Niang, Bradley and 2nd rounders works for Niko

If we had to move Favs in a Porter deal then I'm cool getting Niko.

I can see Boston trading for AD. They can give up some talent and have loads of draft picks. AD is going to have even better stats in the Eastern Conference if he goes there.

I don't think NOLA goes in the tank, they lose the team to a different city if they are trash for a prolonged stretch. I think they'll try to get some real players, keep their dudes and hope for a 'Denver after Melo' situation.

The fact that they are out of the playoff picture and two of their key guys are expiring looms pretty large. If they were to trade AD for all those young LA guys, the start of next season would literally would look like the 2017-18 Lakers with Jrue minus Randle and Caldwell-Pope.

they can't do a deal until this summer.

NO could wait... but they should just fall down the standings.. short tank would give them an outside shot at Zion. Just bringing the guy back and winning 37-38 games would be a big shot long term.

I wonder what Ingram's value is... I don't love him for us, but it seems league wide that Kuzma has more value... Also if Hart could be had for a first (from us) I'd probably do that. Could be really good next to DM. Cheap young pieces are important.

NBA will send them a "wink wink" again that they get Zion in the Lotto if they trade AD to LA and tank.

I'm rooting for the Knicks. If the Knicks could find a way to get AD and then this summer get KD, the West just got a lot easier.

If the Knicks offered their unprotected 2019 1st, Knox, Nkilitina, Hardaway Jr, Mitchell and a future unprotected 1st, NOLA might listen. Zion could be better than anybody the Pelicans can get via trade.

Philly/Toronto/Denver all have pretty compelling offers they could make on AD.
Question is will AD resign with them?

Tough question. I think my answer is "not unless AD has indicated some desire to play for Utah long term". Because if AD doesn't want to play for the Jazz we're not talking about Rudy vs AD for just 2.5 seasons. We're talking about Rudy for 15 seasons vs AD for 2.5 seasons.

IMO Gobert is a top7 player in this league. He should be thought of as an mvp caliber player, but isn’t because he’s more of a defensive player, and the nba and sportswriters put less value on defense than offense and shooting.

I think they throw Zinger, Knox et al, but the 1st unprotected might be a no-go. Having AD already on the roster helps recruit Kyrie/Kembs/KD. If KD tells NY he's coming if they can get AD... AD/KD/Zion? or whatever they pick plus minimums might win the East.

I would despise it if the Lakers traded for him. I'm hoping a EC team gets him - not because we wouldn't have to face him as often but because I want to see A.D. absolutely own most EC centers to a degree the NBA hasn't seen for a while.

I'm hoping for an active deadline - I like seeing trades go down - especially when they make sense.

I wasn't familiar with Hart's defense and found a Reddit Lakers page. They are critical of his perimeter defense and man-to-man defense but a few posters claimed his post defense is solid:

I haven't watched him enough to know how Hart is on defense. I just remember he scored a lot toward the end of his rookie season.

Yeah, I guess it's an either or. They can tell NOLA - you can have our 2019 pick or Porzingis but you can't have both. Either way, NY is building around either a top 3 pick or KP with AD.

Supposedly AD would sign that super max extension in NY...
