2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Perhaps.

But I also have questions about Butler’s size, athleticism, and ball handling skills. To me, he reminds me a lot of Ice Trey Burke.

Herb Jones at least has an nba body and athleticism. Wish we’d concentrate more on size and athleticism tbh.
It's mostly the size thing I was disappointed with. I think he's listed at 6'3" but seems to be about the same size as Mitchell. With our smallish backcourt, if we're going to draft another guard I thought we'd at least go after someone with some size and reach.
I guess front office thought they addressed our front court with the acquisitions of Gay and Paschall, but a young athletic forward like Jones or Wagner would have made more sense than a smallish guard like Butler IMO.

I agree. He does look small. And his lack of athleticism is concerning to me. If you don’t have blow by speed then you better be crafty as hell with the ball and be a dead eye shooter. He doesn’t seem to have that. He has that right handed step back thing. But that’s predictable as hell and the only real perimeter move I’ve seen. I’d like to see more. Does he have a floater game? I guess the only time we’ll find out is if Spida, Conley, and Clarkson ever get Covid. Even up 20+ in the 4th Quin rarely plays Butler.

Meanwhile, I could see Hebert overtaking Royce right now tbh. Or making Jingles expendable. Whoopsies! Guess we ****ed that up. Yep straight major ****ups in the draft. Should’ve drafted McDaniels/bane instead of Udoka and should’ve drafted Herbert instead of trading down and getting butler.

you're jumping the gun. I mean, I seriously doubt you've been watching Pel's games at all. And it's a very different thing to find a niche on the Pels than the Jazz right now.

There's a very realistic alternate reality where Butler is lighting it up for, say, the Pacers or some ish like that.
There’s a very realistic Alt reality that Herbert Jones would be lighting it up for us right now. Why are you ignoring this? He easily could be displacing Royce had we drafted him. I think you’re discounting that Jones has a proven NBA body, athleticism, and skill set that translates onto our roster.

I hope you’re right but it seems to me like Herbert has nba size, athleticism, and defense while we aren’t sure if Butler has any NBA skill or athleticism yet. Perhaps we should try and see with Mitchell out? Or will we continue to see Forrest play ahead of butler? I thought we were going to try and rest Conley for the playoffs yet I don’t remember the lady b2b we played where Conley was sat?

We can’t have it both ways. We can’t keep saying that Butler has talent but then never play him (while playing lesser talented players ahead of him) while discounting the success of players we could’ve drafted.
Butler has nba skills and athleticism. For sure. He should be getting minutes. The fact that he isn’t is a problem that points more to our system than to him.

Your takes on Royce are wild.

What quantifiable do you have to support this view?

I have to see more of Jones TBH. What Wagner did last night was incredible! If he’s not already on the rookie ladder he will be. Steal of the draft???

you're smart enough to know that skills can't be neatly reduced to a quantity or quantities. His handle and his change of pace are excellent. He's won wherever he's played. In his final year at Baylor he shot 52.4% on 2s and 41.6% on 3s. That's great.

That's all I'm gonna type for now since you asked for stats on Morant earlier today, got some, and then never replied. So, what's the point?

You’re smart enough to know that good shooting statistics from college don’t mean they’ll be a good shooter in the nba. Jimmer says “hi!”

You’re the one who claims that he has nba athleticism and skill. It would be nice to see evidence to support your point. I have serious concerns over his athleticism, handle, and size. His play seems to support these concerns.

I know you think you’re smarter than everyone else, but it would be nice to see evidence of it. So if you think he has nba skills and athleticism, do something (or anything) to support it. That’s how discussion works. We can’t just assume you’re right about everything just because you declare it.
