2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Crazy how wrong I was on the Rockets this year. They are looking like a very good team. Too bad they bought the Reed Sheppard hype. After being in the top 3 for ROTY pre-season, he's looking like one of the worst rookies in the class.

Small sample size and stuff, but his insane stock % from college havent translated at all and he hasnt shot a FT in 155 minutes of game time.

I've watched a lot of HOU this year, they're a really good regular season team. Super deep and their best players haven't even been playing that well. With Shep, it does feel like there's a confidence issue. He's afraid to do anything on the court. IMO, it's different from Cody Williams. I don't think Cody can play, and that's why he's not confident. I think Shep can play, but he legitimately looks terrified to shoot or make a mistake. A lot of people love his middy game, but to some degree I think that's a result of him being terrified to do anything else. It's the least offensive "mistake" to miss a mid range jumper.

His production without Dillingham on the court open my eyes to the idea that he could excel in a bigger role once in the NBA, but he might be lacking the mental aspects to be more than that. He does not have FVV's fk you mentality which would be necessary for him to reach those levels. With time he'll be at least a good role player though.

Did he even start for Duke? I liked him as a shooter, but I don't remember him showing a whole lot more than that.
I believe he was a spot starter for Duke but this is how he played for Centennial HS in Corona, CA. My son was a grade ahead of him in HS but played for another local school. Donovan Dent also played for that Centennial team. They were fantastic pairing but McCain looked really special like the next Steph Curry. He just had something really special about him, like he was going to be a future great, but then the season at Duke happened. Most confident exuding HS/AAU player I've ever seen in person, LaMelo would be equal in this regard but only played 2 years at Chino Hills, and I've seen a quite a few when living in SoCal (Okongwu, Mobleys, Jaylen Clark, Dent, Lonzo, etc).

Looking back neither he nor Knecht were really on Jazzfanz radar but Ainge might end up looking really foolish for passing on both these guys. Ofc they were (too) high on Keyonte so weren't going the McCain route. Knecht was already 23 so I'm assuming that's why they didn't seriously consider him.

Knecht was on the radar for a lot of people. Less so McCain.

Was looking at my final big board for this draft and though I was high on McCain/Knecht, I still only had them 9th and 12th respectively. I remember being out on Cody Williams for most of the process, but I let @Ferguson_Mellochill constant tongue washing of Cody convince me and I put him 8th.

At least I can take solace in knowing I had McCain/Knecht above their draft positions.

If everything goes perfectly, maybe he could become a top 10-15 guy. A player "like Shai" doesn't have to be literally Shai. I'm referring to Cody becoming an elite isolation scorer and on-ball creator, which would be a top-end outcome for him.

Also, a bigger version of Shai isn't necessarily the best player in the league.
Does he still have a chance to be Shai?

Cody Williams being out of the top 10 isnt surprising. He had a bad summer in international play and had a mediocre freshman season were he looked passive and weak.

Despite what some moronic posters who have no grip on reality think, he is very far away from contributing at the NBA level. He couldnt even contribute at the U19 level against France and Turkey. He got played off the floor against France.
Damn bro was spitting some facts.

Bruh when you say everything at some point you will hit some facts. On the clock your big board says you’d have taken Cody.
I was extremely consistent on my criticism of Cody (I didnt just saying "everything at some point"). Like I said, I kept him high because of the length factor, but I messed up putting him too high because I was influenced by how much Ferg glazed him.

You would have taken Cody on draft night. Don’t blame @Ferguson_Mellochill . Own it. It’s just tough to take anyone serious that wants to come in thumping their chest when the “facts” are they’d have made the same mistake others did. Really doesn’t matter who said what.
