2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

Damn!!! Bane gets you 4 picks in the future??? I thought the Jazz should have drafted him but Jazz Management at the time thought Azubuike was the 2nd best player available that year. I wonder what we could get for Azabuike.
Pretty sure Tony said McDaniels was the pick if we had passed on Azubuike.

Quite a bit of Utah Jazz talk on today’s episode of the Bill Simmons Podcast:

- Bill threw Utah out as a potential suitor for Jaren Jackson Jr

- Potential package of John Collins + 5 + other draft compensation

- Russillo likes the Utah fit for JJJ

- Russillo says teams waiting around with a ton of draft picks hoping that a top-10 guy becomes available and you outbid everyone and the guy wants to play there is likely a stupid plan and the chances of that are stacked against you.

- Russillo says Utah maybe thinks about getting something headed in the right direction especially if the draft doesn’t go their way. (Tongue in cheek says VJ Edgecombe/Kon Knueppel not making it to 5)

- Bill likes that Russillo threw Kon in there and thinks the Jazz would be upset if Knueppel wasn’t available at 5.

- Russillo says no team in the league would trade down or out from #2.

- Bill asks even if the Jazz come with Lauri Markkanen + 5 + extra stuff for 2 are the Spurs saying no? Russillo says yes and Bill agrees.

The Jazz tanking all the years in which Lauri and Walker had incredible cap numbers and then trying to win as soon as Lauri and Walker have huge cap numbers would sure be...... interesting....

The only way out is through. The Jazz could have chosen to be a frisky team, but Ainge specifically chose against that over and over and over again until the roster has been basically rendered nonfunctional and now they just need to tank for many years until they have real guys again.

It is not such a stupid plans for other small-market teams like OKC and SAS. They can afford to wait with all their picks for a guy like that because they are not simply waiting but instead actively competing with a good young core in place already. The Jazz' problem is that Ainge wasted 3 years of rebuild by not assembling this young core and instead put all his chips in the hopeless "big game hunting".

Surprise, surprise - it's much easier to hunt big game in a place like Boston then in SLC.

It true. I can’t watch this jazz for lost of hope

This Bane return has me seriously puzzled. It’s a mind *****.

If he’s worth FOUR FRPs in today’s trade market we should at minimum be heavily exploring trade offers for Kessler, Lauri, and/or both.
There has been a lot of reporting that this offseason is gonna be crazy, and since there was zero smoke around Bane (afaik) it seems Magic wanted to jump the queue on the markets and do this deal without a bidding war. Cant drive a hard bargain if you arent willing to let competition in on the deal.

People gotta remember that trade return is more than just a representation of a players value.

Its a combination of that plus circumstances plus GM smarts/stupidity. In terms of circumstances the market situation (supply and demand of that players skillset) is what matters the most.

So... John Collins +5 for JJJ is good, but Lauri+5 is not OK for #2... their trade value assessment sounds pretty screwed up to me.

I dont fully know what to make of JJJ, but he's very talented and unique. He's only 25 years old and is a DPOY type player.

The issue is that I dont think Lauri + JJJ are good together. If I'm getting JJJ I would try to trade Lauri and keep Walker. JJJ + Walker is an insane defensive frontcourt and Walker covers JJJ's weaknesses (aka rebounding).

Could you trade for JJJ then flip Lauri for Trae Young?

Trae + JJJ + Walker is an interesting trio. I dont think Trae could get on a better team in regards to a defense that is designed to back him up and bigs who support his playstyle on offense. He would elevate both JJJ and Walker.

Then maybe deal Sexton for Holiday? So you would have:

Trae
Holiday
Sensabaugh
JJJ
Kessler

w/ Keyonte/Collier/Flip/Hendricks/Williams/Harkless off the bench.

Stealing this idea from KqWIN but this might be a good time to call Orlando. After the Bane trade they will be creeping into 2nd apron territory beginning next season. The Jazz can save them $3.6 mil (+ tax penalties) by trading Keyonte for Anthony Black who might not have much of a role on the Magic. Black might be closer to a defensive SF in today's NBA than a PG but think he could be worth the risk for the Jazz. ORL seems allergic to non defenders but Key could cheaply fill the Cole 6th man role.
