2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

Giannis can be a FA in a year. His preferred destinations can't offer anything near that kind of value. If you make a play for Giannis now it likely means he is mothballed the rest of this year so we would likely have our top 8 pick. I just can't see us doing all this for him. It might be a one year rental. He likely does not commit to an extension with us. Way too much of a YOLO proposition for me.

Take Bailey and Walker out and its still better than anything GS, Miami, or NYK can offer imo.
i mean, yeah, you'd need a commitment from him in order to make any deal. i think just about any team would want that. but damn, if you could take bailey and kessler out of it, it would be a no-brainer.

We don't do the deal if Giannis won't extend. I'd take Walker out and leave in Ace. Hate to see him go, but it's an easy yes for Giannis. Jazz have a solid roster and plenty of ammo to upgrade around him going forward. It's not a crazy thought that he might extend with us (although would def be unlikely).
He can't put pen to paper on an extension until October. He has waffled back and forth for like a few years with Milwaukee. You give up the farm for Giannis for a one year rental and set the franchise back 4-5 years if anything goes wrong. Ain't no way.

He will not give a strong enough indication that he will sign and extension. Only way we do it is at rental price.

Milwaukee should just wait for the summer. NY/Miami can offer much better deals then.

the list is the commitment... if you ain't on the list... you ain't getting a commitment imo.

IF the Raps put up CMB and all the picks then that is likely the best package by a decent margin... so long as you don't have to eat their bad contracts.

RJ/CMB/4 firsts and filler?

Apparently Knecht might get moved and LA may attach a second rounder to do it (in 2032). He makes like 4m next year. I'd make that move in a second tbh. Knecht might be nothing but the cap ramifications are basically nothing. Imagine if he became good... rub it in LA face.
Many of the people on this site would have traded him for Keyonte straight across last year.

He has next year at 4m left. The fourth year option would be our choice. Thats like close to a minimum. If that deal is on the table you do it. He might even show enough you can just pass him off to another team for nothing later. I also don't think we do much with our cap space so would take small deals now.
We aren't going to play him, so there is no sense in acquiring him. We already have the best possible version of what he could be.

The second round pick is the acquisition here. That is the "sense". You run him out if you can and if he shows out then great. Most likely he just gets waived or is part of a trade next year.

So next year it looks like we have 11 players under contract with Kyle Anderson, Svi, and Flip on non guaranteed deals. I assume we bring back Svi and Flip, but not Anderson. I'm going to assume we bring back Kessler. I think we could also bring Nurkic back. I am hoping that we sign Harkless to a deal. Then there is a roster spot for our 2026 pick.

So that is 12-13 roster spots. So we have 2-3 roster spots open for free agents.

In my ideal scenario the Jazz get a top-6 pick and turn their cap space into the best draft assets they can muster. Alternatively, if we could get Ayo or P.Watson, then that'd be great. Not holding my breath for that, though

I think one interesting scenario for this summer is that we use our cap space for something similar to Portland last year where we can get a discounted vet in exchange for helping a team out with cap relief.

People are throwing out Jdub from the thunder + a million picks for him. Would basically make the Thunder unstoppable for years to come.

It is very hard for the Jazz to put together a package for Giannis right now due to the salary situation and the pick uncertainty. Both Giannis and the Bucks should just embrace sitting him for the rest of the year and prepping for the offseason when almost every team gets another 1st rounder to trade and there’s more roster and salary flexibility.
