2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

Brice for Missi makes a lot of sense. NOLA is by far one of the worst 3pt shooting teams in the league. Bottom 3 in both 3pt made and 3pt%. Brice can help space the floor for Zion & Queen. Missi is a reliable center who struggled to see the floor as NOLA clearly shifted away from him to build around Queen. He could be a walking double double when given the opportunity and provide some much needed rim protection and insurance in case we do end up losing Kess.

Honestly, I don't think the Pels will give us Missi for Brice. I like it for the Jazz though, depending on how they view Walker going forward.

Trae is being shopped aggressively and could land with the Wiz... but they may have to attach a draft pick. Wild.

Another NOP trade needs some scrutiny. How they gonna just take on an extra year of Poole for CJ (the rumored salary medium for Young).

If ATL pulls this off, they are a perfect Kessler destination. ATL is home for Kessler, and Quin knows how to use a drop big.

OTOH, I think Trae messes with WAS’s tank. The need to be heavily incentivized or they’re dummies.

I do think ATL would have to work with us. They are a bit frugal, so I don't see them going so hard that we don't match.

I think they go fairly high and of course they’ll make it as unappetizing as possible. I still think the Jazz match, but the idea of us squeezing him would be hard to believe with LAL, WAS, CHI, and ATL all having cap space.

The Jazz better make use of the extra cap space they got because the waiting game doesn’t look like it’s going to result in a cheaper contract. Walker will get paid.

The league hating Trae Young like this makes Keyonte's next contract absolutely fascinating.

Have no idea what number he ends up at.

I don’t think an extension gets done unless Key finds his way into the “fun max” zone, but idk if he can get there with his defense. Key’s team is going to ask for a max, but I don’t think the Ainge’s go there.

There’s just a lot of guards available out there too. All have their warts for sure, but there aren’t a ton of teams without a current solution/plan at PG. The only teams who seem to “need” a PG are the ones who are trying to get rid of their own.

They arent alike at all....
Trae has multiple issues defense and zero offball utility. He also isn't as efficient as you'd like. I think Key is a guy that is so much easier to build around and is better in a dual ballhandling role than a heliocentric one.

I think we also will be able to find middle ground on an extension. We didn't try with Walker... I expect that we will try with Key.

They’re not the same, but I think it’s a bit dismissive to believe that one’s market doesn’t say something about the other. Even if you just take their similarity as starting PG’s….not a lot of teams without one in the league.

I’m not trying to say one is better than the other, but with Kessler it seems like there a bunch of teams who both need him and could make a realistic play. I don’t know the cap situation as well for Key’s year, but it does seem like there’s a million PG’s available at all times. Like there’s no destinations for Trae, Lamelo, Ja, Garland etc. A lot of that is their warts, but it’s also just the lack of open starting positions.

If Key was just regular bad on defense I’d say he’s entering fun max territory. But I’m not ready to say he is until the results get better.

We may also have to rethink what a fun max is in the apron era. Everything is being re-evaluated.
