What's new

5 year old kills 2 year old sister... with a birthday present.

Some major cities have stricter gun laws because they see their streets being even more deadly when guns are prevalent. Major cities also have higher crime rates. You do understand correlation =/= causation, right?

Fixed.

Removing all guns would stop gun violence. But would it lower the rate of overall violence? If not, then what have gained by banning guns?

I believe you would significantly decrease fatalities. Even single life saved is a win in my book.

Also I have been to Honduras, Canada and several of the islands in the Carribean and I never felt afraid in any of them. But that question of yours stems from your misunderstanding the problem and the motivations of the people involved.

I am glad you felt safe.
This gentlemen for example felt very unsafe and was mocked all over Canadian media. Those two guys by the way were selling cheap tickets for Stampede, lol.

1 guy is what you use to support your statement? You can find 1 person to support almost any claim you have no matter how insane it is.

In fact let us forcibly steralize people that have IQ below 115. By force, no exception. I guarantee there are people that would support that statement.

You guys are strange. You see the problem, agree that people in your country are getting killed by firearms way more then in other developed countries ( lets not talk about Honduras, Jamaica, Gwatemala or Swazilend), yet you do not want to change anything to improve it. All you do is crying about your constitutional rights to carry a gun.
Let me ask you this - how do you feel when you visit other countries where you can't have gun? Feel unsafe and scared? Looking over your shoulder all the time? I am very interested to know.

I'm interested, AK... if you were an American policy maker, how would you go about disarming the public? What would be your strategy to account for the 300+ million guns out there? Laws? Mandating that guns must be relinquished will likely elicit cooperation only from those who are the most responsible with their firearms in the first place. I would be surprised if such an action was able to recover 10% of privately owned guns. Taking them by force would be an impossible and unsafe undertaking.

Also, I feel like your username unnecessarily glorifies military style weapons. It makes me uncomfortable.

Attempting to take them by force would split this country down the middle and result in civil war. Guarantee it.

As for mandating it and the most responsible ones cooperating I think that all depends. I consider my self very reliable and safe with my weapons. I would not comply. Period.

No, it is just example. Thats what I asked how you guys feel when traveling. So far only you answered that you fell safe and have no need for gun while visiting other countries. Gentlemen from above storry did not feel safe and wished he would had gun. Need more responses.

I am sure you will find a wide range of answers for a wide range of reasons. It is possible to be fearful of traveling in a foreign land and it having nothing to do with the prescense, or lack thereof, of firearms.

This is tough question which I am not sure I am able to answer - Stoked pointed that I do no understand americans which in a way is true. I probably would start at creating gun registry/licensing system, more thorough background checks and psychological assessement prior issuing weapons. Maybe limit amount of guns to 1 per person - that should be plenty for self defense purposes. Promote and encourage usage of non fatal guns like gas guns for self defense.
I am more interested what you guys think needs to be done - as it is I am ok with gun control laws in my country.

What I meant was, those that would comply would likely fall into the category of responsible, not that all responsible gun owners would comply.

Lives. Gun violence is more deadly than other forms.
