What's new

5 year old kills 2 year old sister... with a birthday present.

Why you gotta be all trying to spread your "morality" to a country you don't even live in, and complain about Muslims changing the "morality" in your own?

Just talking, not spreading anything. Trying to understand why. And maybe one day I will live there who knows? I loved Spokane BTW, looks like nice place to retire. Montana is great too:).

If it is true that %88 of Americans carry a gun I would think before I go to USA. The fact that %88 of Americans need a gun is scary.

Not true. Illinois where Chicago is is not even in top 5.

This study here tells the real storry.

https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/01/the-geography-of-gun-deaths/69354/

From the article:

Might tighter gun control laws make a difference? Our analysis suggests that they do.
Firearm deaths are significantly lower in states with stricter gun control legislation.
While the causes of individual acts of mass violence always differ, our analysis shows fatal gun violence is less likely to occur in richer states with more post-industrial knowledge economies, higher levels of college graduates, and tighter gun laws. Factors like drug use, stress levels, and mental illness are much less significant than might be assumed.

“States that allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns enjoy a 60 percent decrease in multiple-victim public shootings and a 78 percent decrease in victims per attack.” John Lott, Jr. and Bill Landes, “More Guns, Less Crime.” [Image: Concealed Carry Licenses, Ohio Free Press, 2009. Federal court recently struck down Illinois’ state-wide concealed carry ban.

yeah, yeah, thats why you stuck with English unit system as well while most of the world moved on long time ago. You just can't accept that something outside of USA can be better isn't?

I think that is because it is too ingrained in our way of life. It would be too expensive to change now.

There is always a resistance to any kind of change.

I wouldn't mind a change to a phonetic alphabet or an alphabetically ordered keyboard but it ain't gonna happen.

What is your point? Previous article I posted clearly shows that death rates due to firearms are highest in states with lax gun regulations. There is over 30 states where death rate is higher then in Illinois. So?

Wow fail... Straight from the website you linked.

"What are the other two states that allow concealed carry without requiring a permit? Isn't one of them Vermont? Why is that nugget of fact left out?

How would this map look if the chosen factors were taken down to the county level? Illinois, for instance, is a "blue" state containing a lot of "red" territory, yet the" blue" areas of the state account for just as much or more of the state's gun deaths as the "red" areas. The "blue" parts of Illinois have more restrictive local gun laws to boot.

Why is there no consideration of correlation between gun deaths and population density?"

Btw I never mentioned Illinois, I mentioned Chicago, you completely strawmanned me once again. I recommend you to read a list of fallacies since you keep repeating them over and over again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies

Us God believers think God gave us the right to protect ourselves so we fight against government interference in that. We try to learn from history as well:

The reports are another story. U.S. God-denying media have an anti-gun agenda much like you.

Are you really trying to equate believing in god with carrying guns? Is god not a peaceful being in most religions? If you would like to say "us" god believers, then don't include any conjecture about what all people who believe in god believe. Belief is diverse, and it certainly does not mean that we are gun toting bush supporters just because we believe in god. Sure, for some people that is the case, but to lump everyone who believes in god into a constriction like you did is ignorant to say the least. I believe in god, and I value life, therefore I support comprehensive background checks on firearms, that is my opinion.

Chicago accounts for more then 75% of Illinois population. Nice try trying to blame 25% for distorting general numbers. You unsuccessfully tried to blame strict Chicago laws for their supposed "highest firearm death rates in USA" which is not true. Illinois, including Chicago is not even in top 30!
Epic fail. But you never admit when you are wrong so why I am even arguing here.

Are you for real?

As of 2007, 10.2 out of every 100,000 people were killed by firearms across the United States, but that rate varies dramatically from state to state. In Hawaii, at the low end, it was 2.6 per 100,000; in New York and New Jersey it was 5.0 and 5.2 respectively. At the high end, 21.7 out of every 100,000 residents of the District of Columbia were killed by guns, 20.2 in Louisiana, 18.5 in Mississippi, and 17.8 in Alaska. Arizona ranked eighth nationally, with 15.1 deaths per 100,000.

Dude you are total failure. It is rate per 100.000. Not totals. It accounts for population density by doing it.

There is a bit of facetiousness in my comments. I was going along with the liberal caricature of "clinging to guns and Gods." It was also a bit of carry over from another conversation we were having in another thread.

I realize there are at least 2 atheists/ libertarians who are pro-gun rights on this board.

To address another point, there is already near universal background checks so "universal background checks" is really just code for universal gun registry, which is historically the first step to gun confiscation, and then extermination...as that video I posted warns about.

The metric system is just as arbitrary as any other system. I know the Imperial system and am fine with it.
