What's new

A look back

2010-2011(sloan resigened we got crobain for half a season
Raja Bell played 30.8minutes (wow)

2011-2012
raja bell played 23.4 and josh howard played 23 minutes a total of 46 minutes lost

2012-2013
foye played 27.4minutes mo williams played 30.8 minutes

all those minutes wasted on vets who are no longer in nba or now playing bench roles.

this truly HURTS me as an (ex)Jazz fan

If Burks/Hayward/etc were going to become stars after having played X amount of minutes, I'm sure they will still become stars once they reach X minutes. Their ascent to superstardom will just be delayed by the extra 10mins/games that Foye/Williams/Bell were given in place of Hayward/Burks.

My suspicion, however, is that even if Hayward and Burks had played 48MPG for each of the last three years, they still would not and never will become stars.

You are missing the point though. We had to watch a bunch of crappy vets play instead of young exciting player that most of us wanted to see. And for what? What good did playing the crappy vets actually do?

FishOn explained one point you're missing, but I think the larger point you're missing is that by playing a guy like Burks or Hayward earlier, you have a chance to see what type of players they are and can then go forward and plan for the future with a much more accurate picture of who they are before they get to the end of their rookie deals.

Or maybe the bigger point is that there was simply no reason for Bell to play 30 mpg or for Howard and Bell to play a combined 46 minutes - so why do it?
