Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (democratic socialist) wins NY primary

You obviously missed the point. As it stands now they’re paying 97.3% but they need to pay their “fair share”. Do you not see the irony??

You mean, the irony that they gain the most from the US system, so they should shoulder most of the cost? Yeah, I see that.

Archie, do you realize we can all list a dozen democratically socialist countries who all exhibit much better quality of life in every metric you could conjure than the united states. if you're gonna respond with "BUT THEY'RE SMALL COUNTRIES", ask yourself if you've ever considered the population of Venezuela, and why the answer is no, and what impact those you've read have had on the myopia that one then develops.

Afterwards, read Edward Said. I'm logging out for the day.

“‭I know that some people in the US associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism. Therefore I would like to make one thing clear. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy.”
- Danish PM Lars Løkke Rasmussen

Not even the democratic socialist countries want to say they’re socialist

We've discussed this. All developed countries are capitalist. They all have socialist subsystems. The US is already democratic socialist. Scandinavians are just a bit more so.

Well, I certainly haven't.

Tbh, like Ocasio-Cortez said once, I'm really not an expert on the matter.

I just want to make sure...

You know the video you posted was of Ocasio-Cortez doing a completely different interview and they edited it, adding an interviewer who never actually interviewed her asking questions that had nothing to do with the answers, right? In other words, it was a fake video.

Just think: if they got free healthcare, they would be more likely to stay and work for the extra money.

By most of the cost, do you mean all of the cost?

Like I said, people often change when their skin is in the game.

But what happens if we take their incentives away while increasing their amount paid? But hey, you think people are going to work *more* if they get everything for free. Be honest, how many people have you had to hire/fire? It adds an element of perspective. Through job services, where we are required to let anybody who wants to work (and these are people who legit NEED work), the amount who were good are far, far outweighed by the bad. And please be aware it wasn’t a skills issue, it was an effort issue. And these aren’t the extreme outliers, mockers, etc. These were college graduates with lots of debt and no job. I don’t feel bad for them at all. A little bit of foresight and work ethic goes a long way towards making your life better.

To go with the vast majority of the income, close to all of the disposable income.

You were the one who mentioned that they didn't want to lose their free healthcare. Forcing them to be impoverished to keep their healthcare is a counter-incentive. You're not in favor of removing counter-incentives?

But hey, you think people are going to work *more* if they get everything for free.

Actually, you said they had to work less to get something free.

Be honest, how many people have you had to hire/fire?

Enough to know I never want to be in management again.

I'm confused; who asked you to feel bad for anyone? I just pointed out that free healthcare would free up people to work (and, BTW, to be able to take on more risk in their employment), and that the people who get the most benefit from the system are rightly shouldering the most cost.

By going trillions of dollars into debt. Increased social programs will only exacerbate the situation.
It wouldn't exacerbate it if you simply spent less on military.

The shoulder the brunt of the tax burden already but some people want them to pay more(their fair share). They. Already. Do.

Just want to make sure, but you realize she was roasted because she asked the same thing, right?

Like, no ****, Sherlock. Obviously.

Doing more with less has been the model of at least the last 10-15 years in the military. They're already in a difficult spot.

The military’s budget has dramatically increased over the last 10-15 years. They are not “doing more with less”.
They are actually doing more with more.

A lot of that “more” is simply not needed.

He just repeats what he hears on Fox. They've been talking about how underfunded the military is for years. I mean it's slightly less than the rest of the world combined! Shameful. Lower taxes, and divert all existing taxes to the military.

People deserve Trump.

Yeah I thought it was obvious, but the fact that you posted it (it was a dumb video, tbh) and then your comments made me wonder.

I literally said this when I posted it..

"Lol. She thought this was real and not a joke and is getting roasted on Twitter"

I came across the video from an article making fun of her for thinking it was real right wing propaganda.

I'm kind of offended you think I'm that dumb. Feelings hurt.

What do you mean by "She thought this was real"? I mean, Ocasio-Cortez knows the video isn't "real" because she knows she wasn't in that interview. You mean she thinks the video is "real" right-wing propaganda? It is obviously an attempt to make fun of her, so in that sense it is "real" propaganda against her.

I'm just having a hard time getting where you're coming from.
