What's new

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (democratic socialist) wins NY primary

Just a couple of notes. A lot of people seem to conflate Arabs and Muslims. Arabs is a cultural identity. Some have fair skin, eyes and hair. Others have dark brown skin and features. And many in between. Similarly, some of them are Muslims, which is a religion. Others are Christians. Some Arab countries have a lot of Christians, like Lebanon at 30%.

I have a lot more to say about the subject of Israel, but I'll have to find the time. Currently typing on my phone in the dressing room while wearing a hazmat suit.
Pic of you in the hazmat suit, please. Haha

I think this a good starting point. The thing I've read about the most, or know the most about is Islam. I've personally never thought arabs necessarily = Muslims, but can see how those two can be lumped together. I had no idea Lebanon had such a high Christian percentage either. I know very little of Lebanon other than where it's located.

TIL what West Bank is, it's territory and inhabitants. Yeah, I know, pretty ignorant of me. I've read West Bank and heard it a 1000 times, but had no idea what it was referring to exactly until I took 5 minutes to look it up and read about it.

To not support certain policies from the government of Israel is not to be anti semitic, as heard sometimes.

That's one of the Israel lobby's biggest accomplishments in the US. Equating criticism of a government's behavior with racism. Just genius.

Netanyahu: We have Israeli citizens in the West Bank. We aren't going to relocate them all, it is our territory. Occupied territory? What is that? We have 100 terms for every word but zero for occupied.

Palestine: You agreed to not build there and did nothing to stop/not encourage it. You broke the treaty. Your own courts and justices agree wi th h Palestine and international law.

Netanyahu: **** you, go talk to our big brother. Ask Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt... all of them how that works out lolroflhahaha.

Israel is an apartheid state, arguably more apartheid than South Africa ever was. Full stop. Not being sympathetic to the Palestinians is honestly disqualifying of any person pursuing any respectability when in the arena of politics.

If you ever actually want to read good **** that will educate you, Archie Moses, read Orientalism by Edward Said.

He’s Christian, by the way— and that text single handedly launched Middle Eastern Studies departments across the continent. That text will also provide you with a fantastic foundation of understanding current geopolitics in the Middle East other than “the Arab world is violent because IzLam”

Which ones do you find problematic, and why
I'd have to search back several pages to even find the list. My recollection is that not only was most of it far more socialistic than I ever imagined America would ever consider becoming, but that it was also very unproductively hateful. The level of the dialogue is in the toilet these days. It's clear to me that we are miles apart politically, and that the divide is getting bigger. The left seems to be going farther and farther and farther left. The right seems to be getting farther and farther right. The extremes are sucking up all of the oxygen. Those of us in the middle (I'm center-right but I think the same thing is true of those who are center-left) are being asphyxiated.

Its hilarious that people think the new wave of social democrats like Bernie are that far left, they aren't.
