First off, I know i could just look this stuff up but I feel that the site has not had much traffic lately and wanted to start a discussion so there.

Question #1. How are the all stars chosen? Still fans for starters and then coaches choose reserves?

Question #2. They used to select a certain # of point guards, shooting guards, small forwards and centers. How do they do that now? My co-worker says that they take a certain number of guards (any combination of point or shooting guards), a certain amount of forwards (power or small), and a certain number of centers. How many of each?

So assuming its guards, forwards, centers.... Who would be hills competition? Westbrook, lillard, curry, harden, klay?, kemba?, cp3... who else?

Hayward would be up against kahwi, Klay? (not sure what position he plays), durant, Draymond?, griffin, aldrige, wiggins... who else?

Gobert would be up against cousins, jordan, the brow (or is he a forward?), gasol, kat,..... who else?

How much of a chance do our guys have? Seems like with hayward playing his best ball of his career and the guys he is competing against i think he has the best chance but to be honest it looks to me like the jazz get snubbed again despite having three dudes who seem deserving.

Would they all have a better chance in the east? Is the east still a lot weaker than the west?

West unfortunately is stacked.

Durant, Harden and Kawhi are locks. - Hayward

As are Westbrook, Paul and Curry. - Hill

Gobert has stiff competition as well. Green, Jordan, Gasol, Cousins, Brow, Gasol, Aldridge, Griffin...

There are still players like Klay and Lillard to take into account.

We need to win at least 9 of 12 in December
Hayward needs to keep putting up numbers
We need to win 1 of our 2 games against the warriors

The Jazz need to become part of the conversation as a threat in the west. The more the media talks about the Jazz the more they talk about Hayward. Hayward is going to have to earn his way in by leading this team to a compelling underdog story.

warriors will probably have 3. spurs 1. clippers 1 or 2. rockets 1. okc 1. memphis 1 maybe? kings 1, pelicans 1.

I think Hayward can make it. It will be very close tho

Lillard is a lock. Klay might not get in.

Starters:
Russell Westbrook
James Harden
Kevin Durant
Anthony Davis
DeMarcus Cousins

Reserves:
Kahwi Leonard
Damian Lillard
Steph Curry
Gordon Hayward
Chris Paul

Last two (some combo of these players:
Karl Anthony Towns
CJ McCollum
Klay Thompson
Andrew Wiggins
DeAndre Jordan
Rudy Gobert
Blake Griffin
Marc Gasol
Draymond Green

We will have no all stars unless we can somehow crawl into the top 4 in the west within the next month and a half. Even then it's unlikely as we really don't have a go-to guy. Hayward is the closest we have, but too often is Hill or even Hood or Gobert igniting things. That is good for the team, but bad for building an all-star persona.

I'd like to think the coaches would vote in either Hayward or Gobert. If Hill can return and keep shooting mercurial percentages, then I think he'd have a shot as well.

Do you really think Hill would be chosen over Westbrook, Curry and Paul? And Lillard?

Hayward has a chance this year as long as Jazz are in top 5. Hill and Gobert, not so much.

Injuries happen every year. I am sure if we have a great record when it gets closer to all-star one of them might get in if there is an injury sub.
