Part of it is that guys who are currently playing will be looked upon as worse than HOF guts, just because their career is over. If Barkley and AD are both playing today, I think AD is the better player. Idgaf whether one is a HOF player or not. Hell, Barkley at 29 wasn't a HOF player, so by your logic, we should ignore that he is now.

The exact opposite is happening. Players playing now are getting more respect than the retired players.

And? Mashburn is his 5th man, who cares?

You mentioned earlier that you would have Pippen help on AD and Shaq, or even Harden/Westbrook. You have a problem there. Addy's team is full of really good passers. Mashburn hit 40% from 3 at his best. So yeah, Pippen can help, but he's leaving a good shooter wide open. And if he stays, Shaq and AD feast inside. I just don't see you winning.
